Bounced back to his best with a bold front running display over C&D in January, surviving an almighty blunder at the final open ditch (fourth last), so it was a shame to see him fold tamely at Southwell next time from an 8lb higher mark. Still able to perform well from this mark, and a return to this track could suit.
No match for the front running Uno Valoroso over C&D in January (third), with many likely predicting his winning run was over for a while. However, he ran out a game winner next time at Catterick (beating subsequent 'revenge' scorer Nomoreblackjack by a head), and remains tough to write off despite being beaten by his old Catterick rival last time from this elevated mark (106).
In excellent form during November and early December 2016 returning fresh from a break to notch a double at Ayr (both 2m4f). However, the handicapper took aim, and he was beaten at odds of 30/100 from a 22lb higher mark than the winning run started from back at that Scottish venue in December. Freshened up since, but needs to avoid the mistakes he recorded last time if to succeed from a career high mark.
Sedgefield specialist who despite a 62 race career has never been quite good enough to race at this Grade one track. Just held by the front running Duhallowcountry at the County Durham venue on Tuesday (2m, soft), and whilst he's impossible to totally rule out, a few of the others look far more likely winners.
Took advantage of a falling mark to score at Market Rasen last weekend (2m1f soft), and is turned out quickly from the same mark. That race saw a slightly different approach adopted (raced prominently, but not overall leader until mid race), tactics which could also prove fruitful today with regular front runner Uno Valoroso in the race.
Forecasts
Titian Boy (13/8), Roxyfet (7/2), Halcyon Days (4/1), Gin Cobbler (6/1), Uno Valoroso (13/2)
GIN COBBLER is dangerous from this mark, and his last two career successes have come when offering the lead to another rival (often likes to front run, and did so when overdoing things previously in a poor race at Musselburgh early this month). Uno Valoroso is integral to the chances of Gin Cobbler, and if striding on from the front as he did when winning here in January, he's likely to set this race up perfectly for the Victor Thompson trained veteran handicapper. Halcyon Days is much respected, but has probably done his winning for now.
- Gin Cobbler
- Halcyon Days
- Uno Valoroso
