Seemed generally progressive until a disappointing showing at Gowran last time out, finishing behind Theydon Park and just ahead of Delface on that occasion. Clearly needs to put that run behind him but a leading contender if he manages that.

Beaten 32l into sixth by subsequent Supreme Novices Hurdle runner-up Melon on his most recent start over hurdles, and probably would have finished a lot closer if his jumping hadn't been as erratic. Can't be ruled out here if that issue has been sorted out.

Relatively consistent type who dead-heated in a Huntingdon bumper before running nice races in defeat at Naas and Gowran, finishing ahead of a few of these on the latter occasion. Improvement is very possible for an up and coming trainer, and he rates a big threat here.

Seemed to take a big step forward to hit the frame at Navan last time (2m, heavy), finishing well ahead of Wild Desire. Has previously been behind Delface, however, and needs to prove that that last run wasn't just a fluke.

Not totally disgraced on second start at Gowran in similar conditions, seemingly having come on somewhat for his first start. Further improvement will be needed for him to be competitive here, however.

Former Flat runner who switches to obstacles for the first time today. No reason to think on that evidence that he will have enough ability to take on the best of these, though any market activity would be interesting.

Unremarkable Flat performer who makes her hurdling debut today. Must overcome a fair absence for a new trainer, and looks best watched on her first run in this sphere, retaining the hood she has previously worn.
Tame display on racecourse debut when faced with similar conditions at Clonmel last month. Always towards the rear that day when sent off an unfancied 66/1, and looks likely to play another minor role today.

Well beaten in a similar contest at Navan when making her first racecourse appearance earlier this month. Was always in rear with a mistake putting paid to her chances, and jumping is just one area she has to improve on to have a say here.

Forecasts

Theydon Park (6/4), Tree Of Knowledge (11/4), Leomar (3/1), Mystique Heights (10/1), Delface (16/1), Wild Desire (33/1), Shes Flat Tothemat (40/1), Lord Erskine (50/1), Elegant Approach (66/1)

Verdict

It was interesting to see Tree of Knowledge, a talented performer on the Flat (including a fourth in a Group 3), take a step forward last time to finish a good third in a similar contest, while Theydon Park has been running some very eye-catching races for his talented young trainer. Preference though, is for LEOMAR, who was a progressive horse on deeper ground such as we're likely to get today before a slightly disappointing showing last time out. There are a few reasons to doubt the form of that race, however, and he is taken to get back to the winning ways he showed on the Flat.
  1. Leomar
  2. Theydon Park
  3. Tree of Knowledge
