Comes here having run a stinker at Fairyhouse last month (3m1f, heavy). Had been running well in handicaps earlier in the season but latest form has been disconcerting.
Sole chase win from five attempts came over this trip at Musselburgh in November, not quite as good back there in December and off since. Should act on likely testing ground.
A very smart staying hurdler in his prime, now giving off all the signals that those best days may be in the past, close to four years since he's run over fences. This is less testing than some recent hurdles races and could bring an upturn in fortunes.
Winner at Sligo on heavy ground back in September but failed to complete the last twice including over the big fences at Aintree in December. Needs to put those disappointing efforts behind him here.
Ran a fine race to close second over three-miles here in August (good ground) but has been out of form in both disciplines since and now switches back to chasing. Inconsistent sort but capable of having a say.
Forecasts
Roi Des Francs (6/5), Dedigout (2/1), Sizing Coal (4/1), Topper Thornton (9/1), Castletown Bridge (25/1)
Roi Des Francs is the best of these over a fence but his recent efforts have been something of a concern. Most recently he was very disappointing over this sort of trip at Fairyhouse last month on testing ground. Given the likely price, he is opposed in this. Dedigout hasn't jumped a fence in public for the best part of four years but this is much less demanding than some of the Graded handicaps he's been contesting over timber and he could be a major player today. Topper Thornton ran a sound race at this track in August over three-miles though has been disappointing since. SIZING COAL has his sights lowered a bit for this and having won over three-miles on heavy at Sligo in September, he may be the answer.
- Sizing Coal
- Dedigout
- Roi Des Francs
