Poor effort on his reappearance at Plumpton and, while he may have needed the run, he has something to prove now. Claims at the weights if he strips fitter for the outing, though. One to watch in the betting.

Kept things on the boil for his yard during the winter and has acquitted himself well despite not winning. The handicapper has given him a chance. The cheekpieces may help him stay focused and definitely one to bear in mind at this level.

One Cool Boy33
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: Miss N Parker(7)| T: Miss T Watkins| OR:  100

Paid the price for a string of consistent, but well strung out, efforts and was always going to struggle when he hit a mark of 103. Set to race from just a 3lb lower mark, he still looks up against it on these terms. Bounce factor also a possibility.

Won a modest race at Doncaster in January but failed to cope under a 4lb higher mark last time out. Today's 2lb lower mark gives her a chance but she has been very hard win with and it has to be a concern how she faded so tamely last time out.

Very little worthwhile form in this sector of racing and isn't too hard to oppose.

Dropping in the ratings but needs a change of fortune; went well at this course on his penultimate start and possible the drop in trip will suit. On a long losing run but is a previous C&D winner, so one to bear in mind.

John Biscuit127
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-10| J: Miss Gina Andrews(3)| T: Miss J S Davis| OR:  84

Off the track for a while and has a bit to do under a 5lb higher mark than for his victory at Plumpton last October. Others preferred.

Age: 7|  Weight: 10-9| J: Tabitha Worsley(7)| T: P R Webber| OR:  83

Placed on debut in bumper over 2m at Ludlow and is still lightly raced; but she lacks a change of gear and never got competitive when tried over 2m5f, so it's also difficult to asses which will be her best trip. Looks held by the handicapper on her current rating and has a lot to prove just now.

Firet68
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-9| J: Bridget Andrews(3)| T: Laura Morgan| OR:  83

Won a point-to-point but has been poor under rules; and reverts to hurdles after a fruitless campaign over fences. Best just watched.

Blue Topp37
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-0| J: Miss Jodie Hughes(7)| T: D Burchell| OR:  73

Lightly campaigned of late and has at least paid his way with a couple of wins on the Flat. He was second at Chepstow off a mark of 82 last March, so it may be folly to overplay the fact that he is 1lb out of the weights. Place claims if the return to the jumping game rekindles his interest.

Gray Wolf River44
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-0| J: Amie Waugh(7)| T: R C Harper| OR:  63
50/1
Very hard to get enthusiastic about her recent record and, as she is set to race from 11lb out of the handicap, she faces a mammoth task once again.

Forecasts

Stepover (7/2), Quill Art (7/2), One Cool Boy (4/1), Zante (8/1), John Biscuit (11/1), Tiradia (12/1), Blue Top (12/1), Fire (16/1), Cosmic Diamond (20/1), Boethius (50/1), Gray Wolf River (50/1)

Verdict

A leap of faith is required with a few of these, but QUILL ART stands out as one that has been given a chance at the weights and is taken to strike a blow for his shrewd handler in one of his rare raids on the Jumping game's prize-money. Blue Top is just out of the weights but has claims on the pick of his form, while Zante may better than he showed last time out and can go close if he copes with giving weight away all round. Tiradia is hard to win with but likes this course and may be best of the rest.
  1. Quill Art
  2. Blue Top
  3. Zante
