Five race maiden over fences in Ireland, but makes his chasing debut for this trainer having been in reasonable form over hurdles since crossing the Irish Sea. Got to within 4½L of the front running Danceintothelight at Musselburgh on his penultimate start, and such was the gloom last time at Ffos Las it's difficult to form a definitive opinion, but he possibly didn't quite stay, and could be suited by dropping back to 2m.

Multiple Sedgefield winner (including over C&D), but has been well below par for quite some time. He was left a poor third at the last here recently behind Bandol (Duhallowcountry second), and despite being dropped a further 4lb has to show considerably more despite an attractive mark to win.

7/2
Habitual front runner who has finished runner up on his last three starts. However, he probably holds Roxyfet on their latest run, which was slightly below the level that he'd achieved previously when going under narrowly to Chestnut Ben over C&D, with the third placed Sky Full Of Stars winning twice since. Won this race in 2016 (beat Captain Sharpe by 7L).

C&D winner in November 2016, but that was just his second ever career victory. Will be suited by dropping back to this trip after finding 2m3½F too far last time, but remains far from an attractive betting proposition in a race this weak.

Sole success over fences came over C&D in February 2016 (beating Roxyfet by half a length), and finished 7L second in this last year to Duhallowcountry. Renews rivalry on 13lb better terms (ignoring riders claims) but much water has passed under the bridge in twelve months.

Forecasts

Asockastar (11/4), Duhallowcountry (7/2), Roxyfet (7/2), Captain Sharpe (7/2), Spread Boy (6/1)

Verdict

The typical Sedgefield handicap chase in which you could tie yourself in knots with weights and measures involving past previous clashes, but it so often pays to stick with the horses in the best current form, and therefore 2016 winner DUHALLOWCOUNTRY can be fancied to make all with his penultimate runner up effort handsomely franked by the dual subsequent winner Sky Full Of Stars. Asockastar might improve slightly now going fencing for Tim Vaughan and dropped to this minimum trip.
  1. Duhallowcountry
  2. Asockastar
  3. Captain Sharpe
