Turned out quickly unpenalised after recording a fourth career success over hurdles in a conditional jockeys and amateurs event at Carlisle (2m3½F) late last week. However, has previous form over this trip, winning from a 2lb lower mark at Catterick (2m) in mid February. Looks the one to beat assuming the race doesn't come too quickly.
One time talented chaser for Keith Reveley, who showed he retains some verve from the front when weakening on his recent return to action. Whilst in an advanced stage of his racing career, he can be expected to benefit for that first run for eight months, for a trainer who saddled her first career winner at Catterick last week.
Absolutely adores this racecourse and has won on each of his last four visits to Sedgefield. The handicapper shows no signs of catching up with this improving nine-year-old for now despite a 21lb rise since winning on Boxing Day. Runs under a 7lb penalty for his victory here earlier this month, and tough to beat in regular blinkers if granted an uncontested lead.
Tongue tied Irish raider who has mixed maiden hurdles with handicaps. Regularly totally outclassed by Willie Mullins trained runners in maiden company (including Bunk Off Early at Leopardstown on Boxing Day), it's tough to get a gauge on his true ability, with the market likely most telling for this 1m5f Ballinrobe Flat winner (June 2016).
Hasn't shown enough in five runs over hurdles to be considered seriously as a potential winner (pulled up on handicap debut at Carlisle last month), with his sole success coming on the Flat on Tapeta in 2015 for Charlie Appleby.
Forecasts
Raise A Spark (6/5), Highland Fling (3/1), Dark And Dangerous (3/1), Brave Spartacus (10/1), Arabian Oasis (28/1)
The winning run for Dark and Dangerous has to come to an end sooner rather than later, and whilst he's always tough to beat round here with an uncontested lead, he faces a bang in form stamina proven rival in the shape of RAISE A SPARK. A keen sort, the Donald McCain trained four time winner is likely to be positioned by Will Kennedy just in behind the likely pace setter, and can be fancied to pick that rival off in the closing stages and follow up last Thursday's Carlisle success.
- Raise A Spark
- Dark And Dangerous
- Highland Fling
