12 race maiden across both hurdles and the Flat, but has been running some decent races in defeat recently, these conditions should suit really well given all his best performances have come on soft, and he's entitled to go close.
Hasn't been in the best of form recently and stays on the same mark as when when ten lengths at Ffos Las last month. The step up in trip may suit, but he'll still have to find something more compared to his recent performances.
Winner at Newton Abbot almost two years ago (2m5½f, good to soft), but has not been able to replicate that form recently. Step up in trip today is a question mark, and is best watched despite his sinking handicap mark.
Course winner who likes it soft and has seemingly failed to act on better ground in recent races where he's put up some poor performances. Has a low handicap mark as a result, and should go well.
Winning pointer who makes his handicap debut today having shown little in two starts in a maiden and novice event so far. Opening mark seems fair enough, but seems unlikely to be lenient enough to compensate against some more experienced rivals.
Unseated his rider at the first when last seen at Warwick last month but hadn't been in the best of form prior to that. Hasn't won for over three years now and may have his best days behind him.
Has been running well in some similar events recently and runs today off the same mark as a close eighth at Ffos Las last time out (2m4f, soft). Young jockey claims a useful 3lb.
Wheels have come off somewhat this season after he found some winning form last term. Now down to a career low mark and looks to be past his best.
Exposed veteran who is on a long losing streak and was beaten 60L last time out having lost by similar margins (or been pulled up) on all of his recent starts. Seems to be here to make up the numbers.
1/23 under rules with that sole victory coming in a novice handicap event almost three years ago. Frequent yard changes indicate an interrupted career and has given no recent indication that he is well handicapped.
Forecasts
Fraser Canyon (9/2), Storm Alert (5/1), L Frank Baum (5/1), Bandon Bridge (11/2), Mr Caffrey (11/2), What Larks (8/1), Baldadash (8/1), Phar Away Island (16/1), Earcomesthedream (33/1), Warsaw Pact (80/1)
Fraser Canyon looks to be in with a chance of finally getting off the mark here with conditions finally being ideal for him, while What Larks has won here before and is a another who prefers the softer conditions we are likely to get today. Preference though, is for L FRANK BAUM, who has been running some nice races in similar contests to this recently and remains on the same mark as his recent good effort at Ffos Las. He can provide the answer with his young jockey claiming a useful 3lb.
- L Frank Baum
