Returned to form at this track over 6F in late December 2016 when defeating the frustrating Cliff by a neck. Absent since, his overall profile implies that he's an in and out performer, with this being more of a concern than a 5lb rise (won from just a 2lb lower mark at Wolverhampton in November 2016). Stamina also a concern.

Beverley regular, and absent for almost six months since her last run on the Westwood. Did win on Fibresand at Southwell back in 2014 for Brian Ellison, but best watched given the lenghty absence and having finished last of eight on her most recent AW start on Tapeta (Wolverhampton; March 2016).

Consistent since joining new connections (in the visor), and just 4lb higher than for a January course success (1m). Knocked a joint cantering at home after this victory and returns to the track fresh, but possibly needing this race.

Reliable over this C&D (runner up on his last three starts), but holds few secrets from the handicapper as a result. Nevertheless, likely to run his race as usual with this riders 7lb claim again helpful.

Often looks a difficult horse to win with, and needs all of the cards to drop his way. However, he's registered two victories now since late November 2016, and he burst through late under regular rider Connor Beasley to score by a nose over this trip at Chelmsford last month. Leading Northern rider takes over in the saddle with normal rider retained for Orlando Rogue.

Formerly with Richard Hannon, but his handicap mark has collapsed since joining this trainer in September 2015 (77 to 55). Absent since September 2016 and largely out of form last campaign, but no surprise to see a revival on just his second ever AW appearance.

Bombed out badly when hammered in the market (7/2f) over this C&D in early February. Something clearly amiss that day based upon the way he quickly lost touch. Had looked of much interest on the strength of a previous encouraging run over 6F (stable debut) at this track in December 2016. Questions to answer and with a tough draw to overcome but should be monitored for market support.

Forecasts

Orlando Rogue (7/4), Justice Pleasing (2/1), Mr Potter (5/1), Harbour Patrol (8/1), Top Offer (10/1), Centre Haafhd (12/1), Ad Vitam (14/1), Make On Madam (14/1), Any Joy (25/1), Shudbeme (50/1)

Verdict

A tricky race to assess, and a contest in which it would be no surprise to see a gamble landed. Orlando Rogue has the form to take this based upon the ability he demonstrated in the visor here earlier this year, but his subsequent absence from the track is explained by a small training setback. As always, Justice Pleasing can be relied upon to run his race, whilst Mr Potter will need the cards to fall in his favour to follow up last month's Chelmsford success. Harbour Patrol will be well handicapped if showing any signs of a revival and is worth keeping an eye on for the future, but despite a tough draw, CENTRE HAAFHD is taken to make amends for an unexplainable below par effort here last time on just his third run for Ken Slack.
  1. Centre Haafhd
  2. Justice Pleasing
  3. Mr Potter
