Ran well over fences on his penultimate outing at Haydock in December but disappointed when only third back over hurdles at Ayr in January. Handicap mark has dropped 3lb following that latest effort and now off a 3lb lower mark than when successful over fences in May 2016.
Well held over hurdles at Ayr the last twice. Was successful over C&D 13 months ago off this mark but was in better form at that time and and has a bit to prove at present.
Winner of his penultimate outing at Catterick in February but could finish only third last time out at Newcastle. Has been dropped 1lb for that effort and looks likely to go well as he seeks a third win of the season having proven victorious at Bangor in December.
In good form last season when winning three times but has run just three times since winning on the Flat at Pontefract in April. Plenty to like about how he was travelling prior to clipping heels and coming down at Sedgefield in August and is of interest here following a solid third at Catterick last month.
Forecasts
Almost Gemini (6/4), Raise A Spark (85/40), Morning Royalty (3/1), Pistol (10/1)
Catterick winner RAISE A SPARK can take for his leading trainer. The selection remains less exposed than most in this contest and his third at Haydock in January reads very well in the context of this and he is taken to get the better of Almost Gemini who can step up on his first run of 2017 at Catterick last month by claiming second ahead of Morning Royalty and Pistol.
- Raise A Spark
- Almost Gemini
- Morning Royalty
