First start for current trainer and from the same mark as when going well at Newcastle (2m6f, soft) in January. Forecast conditions should suit and has won over almost as far as this last season. Not ruled out if blinkers have a more positive effect than on their only previous use (pulled up).
Grand old veteran who remains very competitive at this level. Tends to set the pace, although was held up for his most recent win which was over C&D in December (good to soft) from 3lb lower. Balance of recent form suggests that he could go well but set this up for something else.
Decisive novices' handicap chase success at Wetherby on Boxing Day (3m, good to soft) came fro 5lb lower. Has failed to complete from a mark of 101 in recent chase runs so switches back to hurdles. Now 2lb worse off with Snapping Turtle for a ½lL beating by that rival when the pair met here in December.
Bumped into the well handicapped Aengus here last time over C&D when looking to have his best chance of winning for some time. Can race lazily and takes a bit of persuasion from his pilot. Remains on same mark as that day, which is won that he enjoyed his last win from (C&D, soft) and could again be in the shake-up.
Been showing a bit more from this mark since going handicapping on his last two starts, though yet to trouble the judge. Could argue that this slightly longer trip could eek out some improvement, though would like to see some support for him beforehand.
Won over C&D three years ago from 12lb higher though something went wrong next time. Was off the track for two years before running well on first start back, also over C&D. Has found life tougher since and not easy to fancy on that evidence, unless there is a surge of market confidence.
Further behind Aengus than Turtle Cask here last time and has never showed a glimmer of winning a race. Has dropped to a very low mark and tongue strap tried for first time here but a watching brief is recommended.
Perhaps always recommended to avoid a win bet on him as he is now 0-13. Did run well from 2lb higher a couple of years ago and not disgraced in a Sedgefield novices' hurdle last time, but hard to enthuse about from 10lb wrong.
Old stager who is a maiden after 33 starts and readily opposed from 10lb out of the handicap.

Forecasts
Houndscourt (3/1), Brae On (4/1), Turtle Cask (4/1), Robins Legend (4/1), Snapping Turtle (11/2), Bankhall (6/1), Redkalani (10/1), Sthenic (18/1), Alwaysrecommended (22/1), Agent Louise (25/1), Blue Cove (50/1)
Several of these like to get on with it. so it should be a true run contest and that should suit TURTLE CASK, who remains back on a winning mark and caught a tartar last time over C&D. Snapping Turtle has good course form and may try to make all, though he does look vulnerable from this mark again. Bankhall looks capable of having a say, while a market check is advised regarding both Brae On and Robins Legend.
- Turtle Cask
- Snapping Turtle
- Bankhall
