Two time winner who has mixed hurdling with chasing since November 2016, and was successful over the smaller obstacles at Ayr last month (3m soft). He probably would have won over fences on his penultimate start, but for finding the 2m5f+ trip a shade on the sharp side, and he wasn't disgraced at this track over fences in November (2m4f) when a 6L runner up to Revocation. This trip appears ideal.

Appeared to have a promising future ahead over fences when a game winner on his rules chasing debut at Hexham in November 2015 (2m heavy), but was beaten next time in a match at Wetherby by Mysteree. He's not been able to recapture his best form in a stop start career since, and wasn't fluent last time at Ayr, but this small field contest could help rebuild his confidence.

3/1
Winner of a couple of small handicap chases last March at Bangor and Leicester, but has struggled in four starts this campaign (often capitulating after racing to the fore). Seems to handle testing ground based upon what we've witnessed last spring, with the hope that he's capable of much better at this time of year something to grasp onto in this winnable small field contest.

Forecasts

Plus Jamais (5/6), Mossies Well (5/2), Whiskey Chaser (3/1)

Verdict

A disappointingly poor turnout in numerical terms. Of the three runners, PLUS JAMAIS is the only horse in reasonable form lately, and he seems broadly unhindered by switching between fences and hurdles. He clearly goes well for Brian Hughes, and he also ran well when beaten by Revocation over these fences (2m4f) in November 2016, and he represents the standout selection in this small field contest.
  1. Plus Jamais
  2. Whiskey Chaser
  3. Mossies Well
