Ex Charlie Mann trained, and a ten race maiden, but showed improved form when runner up on debut for this trainer at Uttoxeter last month (2m4f, novices handicap on heavy ground); only tying up from the last. Clear chance if able to reproduce that form, and if doing so, a purchase price of just £1,400 (Ascot, December 2016) will prove to be a bargain.
Successful just once from 22 career starts (over fences at Ayr in January 2015), but did show some promise at this level over hurdles earlier in her career. However, largely below par for the best part of two years now, and switches back to hurdles (from a significantly reduced mark) after a couple of recent runs over fences needing to show more of her old sparkle to figure.
Stablemate of Silverton who was a 17L runner up to Beyondtemptation from a 14lb higher mark over this trip at Hexham last spring, but hasn't seen out either of her races this season (after racing prominently), and returns from a nine week break with plenty of questions to answer.
Has been kept busy by this trainer since November, with this race being his eighth start for the yard, but his handicap days are still in their infancy (dropped 11lb for three runs in similar company), so it's early days to be dismissive. His fourth placed effort behind Tsundoku at Wetherby (penultimate start) represents his best form so far, and he was possibly bogged down in the Sedgefield mud plains most latterly.
Looks a mare of limited ability judging by what we've witnessed on her five career starts over hurdles to date, and she's yet to encounter ground as testing as she will this afternoon. Tough to imagine she'll be off the mark in this despite a fast reducing mark of only 74.
Narrow C&D winner from a 9lb higher mark way back in April 2013, which was his second career success (following up from Sedgefield ten days or so prior), but has been fairly lightly raced since. He was twice placed over longer trips at around this time of year in 2014, but has had a couple of sizeable absences, and was pulled up here last month (2m) on his latest return from a year off.
His sole career success at Sedgefield in January 2014 (2m1f) for Sue Smith at least proves he handles testing conditions, but pulled up in three of his last four starts he's impossible to fancy despite the paucity of opposition in this contest.
Younger stablemate of Next Hight, she sports a similar recent profile to that horse (pulled up in four of her last six starts). Whilst this is far weaker than the course mares race (2m) in which she met The Nipper last time, she's impossible to fancy on these terms.
Forecasts
Knocknamona (11/8), Airpur Desbois (5/2), Broadway Belle (15/2), Rinnagree Rosie (8/1), Silverton (8/1), Mootabar (18/1), Next Hight (50/1), Beyondtheflame (80/1)
Mootabar boasts C&D winning form in what can only be described as a desperately weak opening race. He will find this trip much more to his liking than his recent return to the track, but one can only be concerned as to how much ability he retains following a couple of sizeable breaks from racing. Rinnagree Rosie could be considered reasonably handicapped on her Hexham form from last spring, but she's another with questions to answer for now, so the vote goes to AIRPUR DESBOIS who made a pleasing start for Oliver Greenall at Uttoxeter last month, and can hopefully see out this trip on testing ground against such weak opposition.
- Airpur Desbois
- Rinnagree Rosie
- Knocknamona
