Regular pilot on board although she is yet to win on this veteran who has looked one paced in his last few starts. Longer trip may help but he does look difficult to catch right nowadays. Yard took this in 2015.
Represents trainer/jockey combination who landed this in 2014. Rider has also partnered him to his latest success. Winner of ten races on the level including three here. Unshipped his rider at the start last time when weak in the market. Remains to be seen if this veteran is fit enough on effectively his first run in eight months.
His Hereford third appeared to flatter him and that impression was reinforced when soundly beaten next time. Has an experienced rider on board who knows him well and he is dropping down the weights. Best form has been shown on better ground.
Gets a 13lb pull with Nafaath having finished 4L behind that rival in October. Has not reproduced that effort since and a visor is tried this time. Yard going well and rider has six winners under rules.
Escapes a penalty for winning a conditional rider's race last week. Trip and ground are fine and rider has ridden 14 winners under rules. Should be tough to beat again if this race does not come too soon.
Yard sprang a 66/1 surprise in this in 2013. Showed a bit more for his new trainer last time and his mark continues to drop.
Showed first glimmer of ability last time when fifth behind Cafe Au Lait. Has plenty to do to reverse those placings from a mark 10lb out of the handicap. A double at Southwell on Sunday continues trainer's resurgence.
Forecasts
Cafe Au Lait (4/5), Bonvilston Boy (6/1), Hugh's Secret (15/2), Nafaath (11/1), Torero (11/1), Cougar Kid (12/1), Pertuis (40/1)
CAFE AU LAIT looks the safest option under the experienced Claire Hardwick. He escapes a penalty for last week's Wetherby victory and with his rivals lacking depth and any notable recent form he should follow up. Tim Vaughan has his horses going well at the moment and Bonvilston Boy is expected to give a good account whilst Pertuis has run some good races here on the level and he could go close under his capable rider.
1. Cafe Au Lait
2. Bonvilston Boy
3. Pertuis
