Not encouraging that he hasn't been seen at the racecourse before this age and likely to struggle to concede weight all round - and to some more experienced rivals. Hard to fancy for a yard with a poor record with newcomers.
Kept busy since making his debut at Chelmsford in December (last of nine) with five career starts all coming over 6f. Very disappointing last time when turned over at long odds-on (2/9fav) at Newcastle but he set a muddling pace and got done for a turn of foot. Could well bounce back.
Well held when beating just one rival home on debut last month but addition of a hood helped last time and trainer does well with his younger horses. Will continue to progress.
Trainer has a respectable record with his debutants and jockey's strike rate is 23% around here. Likely to be better on turf in the summer but interesting if there's market support for him.
Smart pedigree but trainer's form at this course is just four winners from 67 runners which is off-putting. Shrewd yard though and market check vital.
Bred for speed and cost a pretty penny as a yearling (50,000 gns). Trainer not known for his debutant winners but this looks about the right trip and the gelding is interesting if there's any market support.
Jockey has a good record at this course and is useful from the front. Draw has been kind and despite being a beaten favourite here last time, he will no doubt be difficult to pass if getting the lead.
Out of her depth in here and would have a better chance tried in a handicap. Yard out of form.
Forecasts
Basheer (6/5), Red Alert (5/2), Alfonso Manana (5/1), Calypso Jo (10/1), Essential (11/1), Captain Bond (20/1), Slipalongtrevaskis (50/1), Raspberry Princess (66/1)
Alfonso Manana and Red Alert both set a reasonable standard to aim at but they look vulnerable to anything above average, and Marco Botti's charge, BASHEER could be just that. He's still looked green last time at Kempton but that effort was eye-catching and he may do better here. Calypso Jo, Captain Bond and Essential and all newcomers to note in a weak-looking maiden.
1. Basheer
2. Red Alert
3. Alfonso Manana
