Has shown some useful form over fences with wins coming at Ayr and Musselburgh over similar trips to today's and now dropped 2lb from his reappearance run at Wetherby behind Captain Redbeard (winner again since). Looked to have needed that run and could well strip fitter here off a mark that he should be competitive off.
Rather chequered start to his career over fences so far with his first two runs showing what he was capable of especially when taking the runner-up slot at Ayr in December. His two subsequent starts have proved disappointing with his jumping getting progressively worse and lacking fluency. Usual hood removed now and top Northern rider takes over on a rare ride for the stable (4/10 for the yard since 2012).
Consistent and useful handicap chaser (C&D winner) although not seen out for quite some time. Despite the absence, the handicapper has left him on the same mark here (115) as his last run and although he looks capable off this mark he may well need the run after a break.
Had some decent form as a hurdler but has so far struggled to match those performances over fences. Has had some tough tasks though and showed ability on a couple of occasions both in novice chases. Still has something to work on with regard to his jumping as he returns to handicaps off a rapidly falling mark (6lb below his last effort over fences).
Hurdles winner who returns from an absence for a yard that are going well of late and should be able to make his mark over fences. Had two attempts so far showing promise in both and the handicapper gives him a chance here dropping him 7lb from his last run over fences. Would be of interest here if his fitness could be guaranteed after a break from the track.
Winning hurdler who showed promise on his fencing debut just over a year ago although he did look to be struggling at one point in that contest before finishing well. Pulled-up over hurdles on his next start before returning over fences after a break at Lingfield and falling three out. Can race lazily and get behind but should be able to compete off this mark.
Showed improved form (well backed) when winning at Musselburgh (3m) in January on his first start for the stable having previously been with Michael Smith. Failed to follow-up that up when pulled-up at Wetherby last time out, although that race looked a bit deeper, it was still a poor effort and he looked none too keen.
Four-time winner over fences and now slipped back below his last winning mark but yet to really spark this season.
Forecasts
Kap Jazz (9/4), Take The Cash (4/1), Calivigny (9/2), The Cobbler Swayne (13/2), Dream Flyer (8/1), Verko (14/1), Newberry New (14/1), Purcell's Bridge (16/1)
An interesting heat with a few that are capable of winning at this level. Purcell's Bridge returns from a break off a mark that he can win off but his fitness has to be taken on trust. Dream Flyer and Calivigny both need to improve on their runs from last time out and The Cobbler Swayne and TAKE THE CASH make more appeal. The former should come on for the run and is respected but it may well be that Take The Cash can take this on his return from a break for a yard that is going well at the moment, off a mark that looks lenient.
1. Take The Cash
2. The Cobbler Swayne
3. Purcell's Bridge
