Not won since 2015 but returned to form last time with a good third at Warwick and wasn't missed by the handicapper (up 4lb). Will get something like his optimum conditions here but has a stiff task off top-weight.

Fortunate Georgev25
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: R Johnson| T: Miss E C Lavelle| OR:  125
11/4
Generally a consistent performer and unexposed over this sort of trip. Showed he can be effective on heavy ground last time so looks versatile in that respect and with the Champion Jockey booked he's capable of going one better.
3
Horse silk
Joe Farrell21
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: Jonathan Moore(3)| T: Miss R Curtis| OR:  125
12/1
Winner in bumpers and made a winning debut over hurdles at Ffos Las winning by 5L. Well fancied in the market at Newbury two starts back and ran disappointingly. Similar story in Cheltenham Listed contest last time and current mark doesn't look like any sort of gimme.

Dangerous if allowed to dominate and managed to do that last time in a small field at Ludlow but that scenario looks unlikely in this. 4lb rise looks fair at least.

Desert Sensationt,v14
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-10| J: N de Boinville| T: Dr R D P Newland| OR:  123

Gone up a long way in the handicap since he started winning at the start of the season and handicapper looks like he's starting to get a grip now. J.ockey does have a fine record on this hurdles course though (35.71%)
6
Horse silk
Wizards Bridge8
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-10| J: P J Brennan| T: C L Tizzard| OR:  123
18/1
Soundly beaten on all three starts since winning at Chepstow in November. Still looks too high in the weights but anything that this yard sends out warrants some sort of respect, even if he is an inconsistent sort.
7
Horse silk
Awaywiththegreysb23
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-10| J: S Bowen| T: P & M Bowen| OR:  123
16/1
Well-handicapped on best form but all his winning seems to come at Chepstow on heavy ground these days and probably on the slide.
8
Horse silk
Max Forte77
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-9| J: Kieron Edgar(3)| T: C J Down| OR:  122
8/1
Not seen since he was pulled up at Chepstow in December and still not far below his opening handicap mark from last year, which looked harsh then and even harsher now. Hard to put a lot of confidence in.
9
Horse silk
Forthefunofitp22
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-6| J: Aidan Coleman| T: J & A O'Neill| OR:  119
20/1
Has consistently struggled in similar races recently, slipping down the handicap now to a mark he has won off in the past, but will need to return to that career-best form to be in with a chance and failed to complete last time.
10
Horse silk
Ballyheigue Bayt23
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-1| J: Tom Cannon| T: C Gordon| OR:  114
25/1
Not won for over two years and has had an interrupted career recently. Jumped right last time and probably isn't the most straightforward type, or the best jumper so looks opposable.

Horse silk
Captainofindustryp17
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-0| J: J E Moore| T: M Pitman| OR:  113
33/1
Just one win from ten starts but that did come over this kind of trip and the jockey booking is a positive. Still, didn't show enough on recent reappearance to warrant consideration and looks high in the handicap for what he's achieved to date.

Horse silk
Spellbound23
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-0| J: James Banks| T: A King| OR:  113
8/1
Looked like he was getting the hang of the game before having to take nearly two years off through injury. Showed very little in a comeback win at Fontwell but much better last time at Warwick and shaped well. Given a decent amount of recovery time and should be able to resume progress here.

Horse silk
Doctor Look Here30
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-10| J: Lucy Gardner(3)| T: Mrs S Gardner| OR:  109
16/1
Handicapper had his measure since winning at Taunton in December 2015 and although he is coming back down the handicap he does still look a shade high at present.
14
Horse silk
Dartford Warbler19
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-10| J: Sean Quinlan| T: J Parkinson & S Smith| OR:  109
16/1
Disappointing last time when a beaten favourite at Wetherby and step up in trip looks more of a hindrance than a help. Well-handicapped on old form at least but likely to want quicker ground than what he will get here.

Forecasts

Fortunate George (11/4), Desert Sensation (5/1), Bon Enfant (7/1), Max Forte (8/1), Spellbound (8/1), Joe Farrell (12/1), Doctor Look Here (16/1), Awaywiththegreys (16/1), Dartford Warbler (16/1), Wizards Bridge (18/1), Forthefunofit (20/1), Theatre Goer (20/1), Ballyheigue Bay (25/1), Captainofindustry (33/1)

Verdict

The booking of Richard Johnson looks like a boost to FORTUNATE GEORGE's chance and his consistency can see him over the line against some of these "in and out" rivals. Spellbound shaped well last time and he would have a chance if returning to his form of 2015 and conditions are likely to suit Bon Enfant and he would have a chance if he can handle carrying top-weight. 1. Fortunate George 2. Spellbound 3. Bon Enfant
