Well named 170,000 Guineas foal by Dream Ahead out of Jessica's Dream. Dwelt on debut over 7f at Kempton (February 2016) and was outpaced in the rear before keeping on slowly to finish about five and a half lengths fourth to Highest Quality. Twelve month absence to overcome, and concedes weight all round as the sole older horse in this race. Down in trip for a jockey (rare visitor) who rode a double at this track on Saturday.
Unraced 36,000 Guineas yearling, and tenth foal by Poet's Voice out of Quiz Show. Half sister to five winners and worth close attention in the market in such a weak maiden.
Unraced 3,000 Guineas purchase (Newmarket, December 2016). Second foal by New Approach out of an unraced mare Star Value (a half sister to a Group 3 and a Listed winner).
2,500 Guineas foal, who looked very inexperienced after dwelling when finishing last of seven over this trip on debut at Chelmsford last month. Improvement required.
€10,000 yearling, £26,000 two-year-old who is the most experienced filly in the race with eight career starts to date. Beaten by half a length over 5f here in June by Poet's Society on her third start and has contested handicaps from marks in the low 70's of late. Possibly might have needed her last run after a break, but her effectiveness over 6f is questionable.
Very cheap yearling (£800) who finished last of eight over 7f here on debut in mid November to Killermont Street, and fared only slightly better when dropped back to 6f last month when fifth of seven in a weak Newcastle maiden won by Ettu. Needs to progress dramatically to take a hand.
Fifth foal by Kyllachy out of Caprarola who has her third quick run in under a month (probably seeking a handicap mark). Green on debut over 5f at Lingfield, she showed more but looked as if a stiffer test would suit when finishing six lengths third to Winning Ways (1/3f) back at the same Surrey venue (6f). A more galloping track like Newcastle will suit, and this is a very weak and winnable fillies maiden.
Forecasts
Lady Cristal (2/1), Deep Dream (2/1), Scala Regia (7/2), Angelou (5/1), Appreciating (12/1), Magical Molly Joe (50/1), Clean Cut (66/1)
A weak and winnable fillies maiden, but Deep Dream still faces a tough task conceding over a stone to her six rivals. Scala Regia looks like she will be suited by this stiffer track, but handicapping (probably over further) will be her primary objective in the months ahead, so a chance is taken on the un-raced ANGELOU who missed an intended engagement at Lingfield last month, but is a half sister to five winners and cost 36,000 Guineas as a yearling.
1. Angelou
2. Scala Regia
3. Lady Cristal
