Made every yard of the running when winning at Ffos Las in November (form working out okay, third a winner twice since and second has run well) and did well in the face of a harder task at Warwick next time, running the useful Willoughby Court to eight lengths. Has the penalty to give away, and may well face competition for the lead here, but still holds a leading chance.

Good third to the Festival-bound Neon Wolf in a bumper at Uttoxeter last December, and a satisfactory introduction to hurdling when third to Kings Walk at Plumpton in mid-January. Should improve with that experience under his belt, and yard do well with their novice hurdlers. Needs a market check.

Not seen since finishing fourth to Roll The Dough at Worcester in October 2015, and hasn't really gone on from a promising bumper debut behind the useful Bronco Billy at Carlisle the year before. Can take a pull, and may not be the easiest to train. Suspicion is there's some ability there but too many issues to address today.

Ran far too green on only start to date at Ludlow, and was pulled up not long after halfway. Looks the sort to need time and despite being in good hands, can't really be entertained as a likely winner.

Some form at a low level in novice hurdles in the Southwest last spring, but well beaten when upped markedly in trip at Exeter for handicap debut, weakening out of it quickly and gave the impression something was amiss. Needs to find more to trouble the principals here, and may be using this as a springboard to a chasing campaign.

Shown little in four starts to date, different tactics last time (went from the front) having little effect. Needs massive improvement.

Showed little in two Irish point to points (although went off favourite for the second of them, pulled up sharply after a bad mistake) but made no mistake in a Cork bumper on Rules debut, making all under an enterprising ride. Killarney run after is best forgotten about as the saddle slipped, and now in the hands of Neil Mulholland, looks an interesting recruit. Hard to weigh up, but market should guide.

7/2
Winner of two point-to-points and has made a good start to his hurdling career, finishing third to Scotchtown at Ludlow (form working out well) and then a good third to the very useful Finian's Oscar here at Hereford in December, making most and staying on well enough for third. Gets a useful 7lb from Gayebury here, which gives him every chance. Handles soft ground well.

Forecasts

Gayebury (4/5), Western Climate (7/2), Bob Mahler (5/1), Muffins For Tea (6/1), Rainy Day Dylan (12/1), Corner Creek (16/1), Coudefoudre (50/1), The Kings Writ (100/1), Plantagenet (100/1)

Verdict

Plenty of these like to lead, and it makes this a bit trickier to work out. The vote goes to GAYEBURY who ran at least as well when second to Willoughby Hedge as when winning at Ffos Las, and it showed he doesn't necessarily need to lead to win. Western Climate gets some weight from the selection but may not enjoy being taken on, and Rainy Day Dylan looks a very interesting recruit to the Neil Mulholland stable. Bob Mahler is the other to consider. 1. Gayebury 2. Western Climate 3. Rainy Day Dylan
