140-rated hurdler who came good over fences last time when beating stablemate Vintage Clouds. That horse was still going well in a very good race when coming down at Haydock last time, so could argue that the form looks very solid. Acts on going with soft in the description and likely to make a bold bid to successfully shoulder his penalty.
Progressive in handicap hurdles last winter, winning four off the reel. Never threatened over C&D last time, but yard has been going well and no surprise to see him go much better this time.
Excellent start over fences, winning two out of three including a comfortable six-length success at Taunton last time (2m 7f, good). Handicapper rates him the best of these on that evidence and if he is right then at these weights he should take all the beating today.
All three wins have been on soft ground, none yet coming over fences. Not a bad effort at Warwick last time, however, and every chance that he could be more competitive this time.
Enjoyed a comfortable first win in heavy ground at Lingfield last time (3m). Was perhaps the best of this lot over hurdles, so if he can begin to reproduce that over fences he can have a big say in this.
Winner here over 2m in November and has twice gone well when tried over longer trips since. Wins have come on good to soft and heavy and a good run from Oldgrangewood earlier on the card would be a positive.
Another competitive renewal of this Grade Two event and CALETT MAD is taken to make it three wins from four in this discipline. The Nigel Twiston-Davies inmate stays well and jumps well, both assets going into this sort of a contest. Baywing is very interesting and can improve for his initial sight of a fence, while Missed Approach has plenty of ability and should pick up some money.
1. Calett Mad
2. Missed Approach
3. Baywing
