Course-specialist who looked better than ever when winning over 2m4f here in December but, though a respectable fourth over 2m4f next time, he was disappointing latest. No margin for error.
Winning chaser who has gradually come to hand over hurdles and scored decisively over C&D last month. Still has relatively few miles on the clock, so resulting 6lb rise may not anchor him.
Moderate handicapper on the Flat who was quickly off the mark over hurdles at Cartmel in the summer but most recent effort in first-time blinkers was disappointing. Freshened up by a blow-out on the all-weather since.
Placed twice for Paul Nicholls in maiden hurdles last spring and was sent off joint-favourite on debut for new yard at Huntingdon on Boxing Day but ran lifelessly. Yard in better form now, but still questions to answer.
Moderate Flat handicapper whose only hurdle success came at Bangor in 2012. Placed in three of just five attempts over timber since, though lacklustre effort at Market Rasen last time tempers enthusiasm.
Useful four-time Flat scorer who has been slow to get going over hurdles, though signs of improvement when third behind Superior Command over C&D last time out. Has to be considered off present mark.
A winner on the Flat before scoring on his hurdles debut for Nicky Henderson at Market Rasen in the summer, though has lost his way since switching yards on the evidence of two heavy defeats at Catterick. Cheekpieces now reached for.
Has over 100 NH runs under his belt and no fewer than 17 wins to his credit but clearly not the force of old. That said, wasn't entirely discredited behind Superior Command over C&D last time and dropped 4lb.
Moderate performer in point-to-points who has struggled to make an impression in five starts under rules, most recently at Kelso in December. Needs to up his game considerably to get competitive.
Forecasts
Whispering Storm (3/1), Superior Command (3/1), Jonny Delta (9/2), Final Countdown (9/2), Medal Of Freedom (17/2), Next Edition (10/1), Endeavor (16/1), Recognition (28/1), Crakehall Lad (40/1)
Superior Command is clearly going the right way over hurdles and a 6lb rise for his recent victory over C&D may not be enough to prevent a follow-up considering he is still rated below his chase mark. Final Command, who was around six lengths back in third that day, should again be very competitive whilst the fact that Neil Mulholland has his string in excellent order augurs well for Whispering Storm who seemed to run too bad to be true at Huntingdon on Boxing Day.
1. Superior Command
2. Whispering Storm
3. Final Countdown
