Fell on his only start over fences so far (has been placed in point-to-points) and handicapper has dropped him slightly in the weights here. Won a handicap hurdle here in April 2016 (off 112) but looked to every inch of that extended 3m2f trip. Disappointed over hurdles at Ayr last time out despite being well fancied and looked an awkward ride on that occasion. Possibly worth a try in headgear given how he travels.

Winner in Irish point-to-points and has always looked as though he would be better over fences after showing modest form in bumpers and over hurdles. Won a handicap chase on his second start over fences at Uttoxeter (2m6f) in testing conditions off a mark of 115. Has been a shade disappointing since in handicaps at Chepstow and Ayr never really going when well beaten over 3m last time and needs to jump and travel better here.

Consistent hurdler with four wins in that sphere to his name and looked to be suited by the switch to fences when winning on his debut at Ayr over shorter. That win came off a mark 8lb higher than his last hurdles win so it represented a step forward. Turned in a lifeless and lack lustre display last time out off a 4lb higher mark when well beaten at Kelso behind Angus Milan and turned in a rare poor effort. Capable of better if bouncing back from a rare poor run last time out over the furthest trip he's tried over fences.

Winner in Irish point-to-points and also successful over hurdles at Uttoxeter in testing conditions over 3m on his handicap debut and with cheekpieces on for the first time. Only completed once in three starts over fences but still made plenty of mistakes in finishing a well beaten fifth.

Failed to win in point-to-points or over hurdles (0/7) but looks to be more at home over fences. Fell at the first on his second chase starts at Newcastle but made amends over 2m5f at Ayr the next time out having shown up well on chase debut at Hexham. Made a few mistakes when winning but showed a good attitude to hold on from Alfred Oats/Spoils of War. Not the same force back over hurdles last time out at Ayr and goes back over fences off a 3lb higher mark for his Ayr win.

Forecasts

Newtown Lad (5/2), Sevenballs Of Fire (11/4), Achill Road Boy (11/4), The Horsechesnut (9/2), Marlee Massie (17/2)

Verdict

Sevenballs Of Fire drops in grade here and returns to fences and this test of stamina will help but he didn’t look a straightforward ride last time out and he’ll never to travel better than he did last time out. Newton Lad gets blinkers for the first-time in an effort to pep him up after two laboured efforts and Marlee Massie is another who needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort last time out. Given all of those doubts then this may well be best left to ACHILL ROAD BOY as he goes back over fences and still looks unexposed over fences at trips like this. 1. Achill Road Boy 2. Newtown Lad 3. Marlee Massie
