Tried over fences of late (has won in point-to- points) but yet to win in four tries over the larger obstacles and reverts to hurdles now. Yet to win over hurdles although best run over timber came at Perth last August over 3m with a fourth to Wyfield Rose on handicap debut. Given his previous form there would be doubts about the trip and ground here with him looking to be ideally suited by further and better ground.

Won her only point-to-point outing in Ireland but had failed to win under Rules so far (0/9). Best run over fences came when fourth in a Perth handicap on debut over the bigger obstacles but she failed to follow that up in two subsequent starts. Best recent effort over hurdles came when third at Newcastle behind Book At Bedtime; travelled up well there but not for the first time found less than promised. Ran poorly (pulled-up) when back in handicaps last time with a tongue on for the first time and something to prove here even in an easier grade.

Six hurdles starts have yet to yield a win or a place and was well below form last time at Ayr (2m) when the gamble of the race. Went off far too hard on that occasion and failed to last home after building up a big lead and racing very freely. Similar tactics may well be employed here but he will need to settle better although he does get a fully fledged pilot this time.

Off the course 547 days and has yet to win over hurdles although he's started to look as though he's more capable in handicaps. Showed his best form on his last start (second in handicaps) when third at Market Rasen to two next time out winners. Has his first start for a new yard after being sold from the Karen McLintock yard for £9,000.

Generally poor form over fences and unplaced on two starts over fences. Reverted to hurdles last time out when a big price at Ayr over (2m) and finished third with Intercounty Star behind in fourth. First-time cheekpieces appeared to help a little but he still looked very one paced and although dropped a 1lb for that effort others still make more appeal.

Course winner who has won twice over hurdles with the latest win coming off 74 (has won off higher) at Newcastle in April. Followed up that run with decent enough efforts the second in December coming after a break when third to the well handicapped Annie Alainn. Failed in build on that on latest start when possibly finding 3m1f too much of a test at Catterick. Her rider (Brian Hughes) reported that she was never travelling and hung right through the whole race. Should be capable off marks like this one and the drop in trip may well help here although her inconsistency is a worry.

Showed very little in two bumper outings and hasn't really improved for going over hurdles. Opening mark of 91 looked stiff and she's been well beaten in six handicaps so far with her best effort coming over C&D in December when runner-up to Daytripper off a mark of 75. Back from a break she attracted support and kept on well to take second. Failed to fire last time out when given a positive ride and folded up quickly and question marks remain over her.

Still a maiden over hurdles despite having plenty of chances and work to do with a few of these on the past few starts. Unseated at Ayr last time out and possibly not suited by the run of the race in his previous two starts and based on his Flat form not badly weighted.

7lb out of the handicap and 0/14 over hurdles gives you an idea of the task that he faces here. Eyeshields replace the normal cheekpieces but it may take more than that to gain a victory here even in this modest company.

Forecasts

Simmply Sam (3/1), Misfits (4/1), Massini's Lady (11/2), Here Comes Love (7/1), Intercounty Star (7/1), Rivabodiva (8/1), Rioja Day (9/1), The Last Leg (10/1), Agesilas (40/1)

Verdict

Not that many appealing prospects in this and hard to find any improvers or anything that is ahead of its mark. Misfits heads the market but hardly looks a solid market leader dropping back in trip and on ground that may well prove a little too testing. Intercounty Star went off far too hard last time but in a race with no obvious other front runner similar tactics may be tried today with a fully-fledged pilot back on board. The Last Leg and Massini’s Lady have both shown promise and if the former is fit enough his hurdles form looks good enough to take a hand here. Rioja Day is certainly capable of winning over hurdles if he gets a race run to suit but SIMMPLY SAM may find this more suitable than the stamina she was given last timeout and is capable off this mark. 1. Simmply Sam 2. Intercounty Star 3. The Last Leg
