Enjoyed a rewarding spring campaign over hurdles in 2016, notching up four successes. A dual runner up over fences, but also sports a 40% non completion rate having unseated his rider twice, including at Kelso last time. This small field and shorter trip should suit and clearly holds every chance if completing.
Has returned from a lengthy absence this winter with two starts over fences. Held little chance with Waiting Patiently and Forest Bihan on Newcastle return in early December, and struggled over further last time handicapping after being hampered by a faller. This looks a better option for this one time 140+ rated hurdler.
Dual scorer in point-to-points (3m), but makes rules chase debut at the age of nine. His UK hurdles career got off to a winning start in June 2015, but he remained absent from the track until November 2016. A Uttoxeter hurdles winner in December (beat subsequent winner Deepsand), he looks sure to be competitive on his belated rules chase debut from a leading yard.
A two time winner over hurdles, who despite finishing second at Sandown in early November (2m Good), has found life tough in Class 2 and 3 events over timber this winter. Makes his chasing debut and will handle testing ground if the rain arrives.
C&D winner over fences in late October (driven right out) who has broadly run well on each start for this trainer so far. Gamely rallied last time to chase home Eastview Boy at Newcastle, and whilst possibly not as good as some of these rivals over hurdles, he should again run his race over fences in first time cheek-pieces (also tongue tied)
Forecasts
Volvalien (11/10), Ash Park (3/1), Applesandpierres (7/2), Prairie Town (10/1), Lyvius (16/1)
Volvallen has seemingly taken best to fences of those to have run over the larger obstacles, but Lyvius has had excuses on both of his starts since his return to the track and this looks a considerably better option for him. However, preference is for the Dan Skelton trained rules chasing newcomer APPLESANDPIERRES. He could find this trip sharp enough having won twice in 3m point-to-points, but the suspicion is he's always been a chaser in the making, and this delayed rules appearance is only because of a training setback after winning at Worcester in June 2015.
1. Applesandpierres
2. Volvalien
3. Lyvius
