The only C&D winner in the field, having sprung a minor surprise when winning here last time having disappointed on two previous starts over hurdles. This looks marginally less competitive on paper, and has to be in contention if able to replicate that course form under a penalty.
Hasn't been out of the first two in four starts under rules for Dan Skelton so far, including two wins. Looks a strong stayer, and with form on this ground already should be set for another bold bid.
Finished 14th of 14 in a traditionally decent Ffos Las bumper (2m, soft) last month, failing to run to the standard of even his modest odds. Would be a surprise to see him involved in the finish on first run over hurdles.
Was in contention for a second win over hurdles at Leicester when a mistake at the last may well have lost him the race. Has already won a similar quality of contest to this at that course over 2m4f, and has a big chance if the step up in trip suits.
Returned to the track in more competitive novice hurdle at Chepstow after a break of 20 months having been pulled up in Thistlecrack's Sefton Hurdle at Aintree in April 2015. Has some decent form in the book and a player if building on comeback run today.
Beaten 96 lengths into last place on hurdles debut on heavy ground 12 days ago following an entirely unremarkable PTP career. Upped in trip today and expected to play only a minor role once again.
Forecasts
Gray Day (2/1), The Bay Oak (2/1), Back To The Thatch (9/4), King's Tempest (8/1), Emperor's Hill (40/1), Flembrandt (300/1)
There are question marks over a couple of these and it's difficult to say how strong the form of some of their previous victories is. However, THE BAY OAK has shown enough to land the spoils twice over hurdles so far, and this strong stayer looks a decent prospect for a top yard. He is taken to overcome his penalty and win his third his third race under rules. Former C&D winner Back To The Thatch can give him most to think about, followed by Gray Day, who should be suited by today's step up in trip.
1. The Bay Oak
2. Back To The Thatch
3. Gray Day
