Good quality novice chaser who achieved his second win over fences when seeing off Lakefield Rebel by a short head at Doncaster in November. Seems handicapped to his best the last twice but wasn't beaten too far here last time out, and is a major player once again.
Makes his first start in an open company chase having won a staying handicap hurdle here last time. Spent much of 2016 pointing before two disappointing races under rules at Ayr and Hexham. Apparently much more at home going the other way round, though, and can play a part once again at this right-handed track.
Still in with a chance when unseating three out in a weaker contest at Huntingdon last time. Comes here today off the same mark and is reunited with the Champion Jockey. Tends to come into his own during the spring and claims if doing so again this year.
0/19 including 16 runs over fences, and hasn't seemed to show any improvement for recent switch to a new yard. His best form is on the forecast ground, but seems set to play a minor role once again.
Drops to a career low mark with jockey claiming a useful five pounds. Has only won once under rules when he was the only finisher, but not beaten far at this course two starts ago. Others are more likely winners, but not totally out of the reckoning.
Slipping back down the handicap to a very workable mark, but has had a disappointing campaign so far with more than enough opportunities. May run into a place in a relatively weak field.
Pulled up on most recent start which was the latest disappointment in a season where he's consistently struggled. Should get his favoured ground, and, as a former C&D winner cannot be dismissed out of hand, but others look more likely sorts.
Has never gotten within 15 lengths of a winner under rules, and races from out of the handicap today. Poor jumper who will have to come on leaps and bounds to be involved in this.
Former point-to-point winner who has always struggled under rules and looks set to play a minor role again. Further out of the handicap today and tongue strap applied.
Forecasts
Landmarque (9/4), Mister Don (4/1), Apache Pilot (11/2), Benefit In Kind (6/1), Shine A Diamond (7/1), Boss In Boots (11/1), Top Cat Dj (20/1), Toreador (25/1), Valentino's Choice (66/1)
This looks likely to come down to those higher in the weights, including Landmarque, who won here over hurdles last time out and could have more to offer at a course where he has shown plenty of ability, and Boss In Boots, who often disappoints in the winter before going on to bigger and better things during a spring campaign. Preference though is for promising novice MISTER DON, who can come on from a disappointing couple of runs to make it a third win over fences.
1. Mister Don
2. Boss In Boots
3. Landmarque
