Showed promise in bumpers for top trainer before switching stables and playing only a minor role in all three starts over hurdles so far. Finds himself with top weight on handicap debut, others with more appealing claims despite course's top jockey being booked for the first time.
Consistent sort so far this season before struggling under a penalty at Ludlow last time for previous Catterick win. That race may have come too soon for him, however, and this previous course and distance winner is a leading player once again.
Shown little since switching yards from Sandra Hughes in the Autumn. Makes British debut here with top jockey in the saddle, but all his best form is over shorter and up against it with a big weight. Good ground is a bonus.
Came close at Uttoxeter when shaping as if a step up in trip would benefit. Off since disappointing fifth at Worcester three weeks later, but surely there's more improvement to come at this level, off a potentially lenient mark.
Shown little ability over hurdles so far. Tries a new trip today, but that seems unlikely to encourage the necessary improvement especially given he's down only two pounds for 25-length defeat in similar contest at Sedgefield last time out.
Would have won over C&D on New Year's Day but for a runaway leader who looked in a different class to the rest. Soundly beat Ronaldinho that day and could put in another bold bid off the same mark. Likes it here, winning a similar race a couple of years ago.
Dual-purpose performer who is a 22-race maiden over hurdles. Has struggled in handicap company, and though his mark is slipping all the time, he's liable to find many of these too good once again. Headgear hasn't done much to improve him.
Put in a better performance here last time wearing a visor which he retains today, but has still yet to place in a hurdles race, and others look better handicapped.
Veteran former C&D winner who has nosedived in the weights following a sequence of disappointing showings. Recent runs haven't been totally devoid of ability, but plenty to prove in this company off a career-low mark.
Forecasts
Urban Kode (9/2), Peppay Le Pugh (9/2), Sports Barrow (11/2), Parc Des Princes (6/1), Arantes (6/1), Danceintothelight (13/2), Asockastar (10/1), Ronaldinho (14/1), Shy (25/1)
Urban Kode would have been a C&D winner on New Year's Day but for a winner who looked in a different league to the rest of the field, and he's entitled to go well again off the same mark. Preference, however, is for DANCEINTOTHELIGHT, another C&D winner who was consistently running some of the best races of his career, even at ten, before disappointing at Ludlow last time out. He is taken to recapture that early-season form, with Asockastar able to fill the places if coming in well off the back of a break.
1. Danceintothelight
2. Urban Kode
3. Asockastar
