A good run from Crown Hill, who runs in the previous race, will give us a good clue about the worth of the form of this fellow's latest visit to Towcester, where he finished mid-division without really looking threatening. On the whole, he has been a little disappointing since winning at Ffos Las back in March, so looks opposable under topweight.
Blundered uncharacteristically last time out and dropped away tamely as a result here - that was not was out of the ordinary for this lad, as he was a sound and proficient jumper on his chasing debut the month before. Too early to write him off but the handicapper has taken no chances and he needs to be at his sure-footed best this time around.
Another who appears to be on a stiff mark for an inexperienced chaser and he needs to up his game from his debut over fences before he can be forwarded as a reliable option for a race of this nature.
Useful enough in point-to-points but hasn't been cut any slack by the assessor - he looks opposable on these terms.
Acts on heavy ground and made steady progress over hurdles. His connections will know more about planning a strategy after this and, in the absence of clues from the betting market, he is probably best watched here.
Ran no sort of race last time and cannot be backed with any confidence after such a lackluster effort; which is surprising as he had looked calm and assured when he took up the running and scored in bloodless style on his previous visit to Plumpton.
Showed ability in bumpers before graduating to hurdles without setting the word alight. This is another step in his education and he may have to settle for a minor role until he gets the hang of things.
Hard to fancy on his chasing debut given his recent efforts, even though he does have experience of racing between the flags. This may be beyond him just now though and he is best watched.
Getting the hang of things over the larger obstacles and may be better suited to coping with this test stamina than a few of the others. He is at the right end of the weights if this develops into a slog for home and it will be no surprise to see him take advantage of a lenient mark.
Forecasts
Bacchanel (7/2), Bindon Mill (4/1), Bramble Brook (4/1), Dontminddboys (11/2), Ballypoint (9/1), Quinto (10/1), Obistar (11/1), Somerset Lias (20/1), Big Georgie (28/1)
Weight often tells in races of this nature and although DONTMINDDBOYS would appear to have a bit to find on face value, he is a doughty stayer who can be relied upon to revel under the conditions. Bramble Brook and Somerset Lias are others to bear in mind when the betting warms up in earnest.
1. Dontminddboys
2. Bramble Brook
3. Somerset Lias
