Trainer has a 13% winning strike rate at this track in recent years. Won twice here over timber last season and was a solid runner-up in novice chase here last month. Pulled up since at Kelso but not without chance back at happy hunting ground.
Irish raider who has been badly out of form in three starts so far this campaign. Did win here over hurdles last season though, and supporters will be hoping a return to this track brings about much needed improvement.
Represents powerful yard, but they only have an 11% winning record at this track. Will relish the testing ground however and did better than of late when third and Taunton last time out.
One paced gelding who ran respectably when a close fourth here in December and again when runner-up at Kelso 18 days ago. A little improvement would likely see him very much in the thick of the action today.
Looked nothing special and fully exposed for trainer Michael Hourigan. Joined new connections in November and appears to be in good heart, especially judged on a decent second at Limerick last time. Top yard has booked Richard Johnson which looks significant.
Makes chasing bow today having pulled up in his two most recent starts over hurdles. Goes well in testing ground and knows how to win, but aptitude for larger obstacles does have to be taken on trust. Betting market may well prove best guide.
Interesting contender who returned after a year's absence to be beaten just a length over hurdles at Carlisle last month. A winning point-to-pointer so should know how to jump fences and has to come into the reckoning on his chasing bow under rules.
Forecasts
Holeinthewall Bar (6/4), Freddies Portrait (3/1), Ascot De Bruyere (6/1), Mango Cap (10/1), Transient Bay (10/1), Calivigny (14/1), Master Ruffit (16/1)
HOLEINTHEWALLBAR looks the one to beat on his good effort last time at Limerick over hurdles and the booking of the champion jockey looks a very promising indication. In a modest contest Donald McCain's Freddies Portrait could very well make his presence felt having returned to the track with a solid effort at Carlisle recently and rates the biggest danger. Ascot de Bruyere is no great shakes but is an honest sort in this grade and shouldn't be too far away either.
