Oscar Lateen19
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-12| J: Thomas Dowson(5)| T: V Thompson| OR:  93
22/1
Now just 4lbs higher than Heavy ground C&D success in novices handicap contest here in December 2015, but has unseated his rider on his last two starts. Chance if fencing more fluently on only his second start since May 2016.

Harleys Max54
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-10| J: James Corbett(7)| T: S Corbett| OR:  91
12/1
A pair of chase successes at Musselburgh to his name, but now 13lbs than that last success in February 2016 from a mark of 78. However, second from this mark on penultimate start at Ayr against a horse who ran up a sequence. Placed here in the past.

Tambour Majorp27
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-5| J: B S Hughes| T: Mrs A C Hamilton| OR:  86
5/1
A dual PTP winner who has raced only eight times under rules despite his advancing years. Difficult to fancy but entitled to improve for Carlisle reappearance fifth.

What A Dreamt,v19
Age: 11|  Weight: 11-4| J: Jamie Hamilton(3)| T: Mrs A C Hamilton| OR:  85
9/1
Stablemate of Tambour Major, who took a pair of chases as a novice at Ayr in October and November 2015. Struggled thereafter when reassessed but back to a fair mark of 85 and prominent for much of his recent reappearance at Ayr.

8/1
Just the sole chase success so far for Jo Foster at Hexham almost two years ago, with only minor placed efforts of note to his name since. Riders 10lb claim (rode a NHF winner here for this yard recently) most useful.
6
Horse silk
Apache Pilotp,t33
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-2| J: Steven Fox(5)| T: M A Barnes| OR:  83
15/2
A neck winner from around this mark at Hexham in June, and also successful from this sort of mark over further here in March 2015. Falling mark probably the only positive of his four starts this Autumn/Winter so far.

Five Point Plan19
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-12| J: Daragh Bourke(5)| T: Gemma Anderson| OR:  79
50/1
Ex Irish, and ran well above market expectations when ten lengths third at Hexham early last month, but distinctly less promise at Ayr next time and largely an unproven profile overall.
8
Horse silk
Hattons Hill64
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-10| J: Tony Kelly| T: H Hogarth| OR:  77
20/1
Ex pointer, and lightly raced, but pulled up on sole rules start over fences most recently at Hexham in November. With a trainer known for chasers, but others readily preferred.
9
Horse silk
Red Story27
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-10| J: Callum Whillans(3)| T: A C Whillans| OR:  77
9/2
Maiden after eight starts under rules, but started joint favourite last time (sixth) on seasonal reappearance, and only his second start over fences. Handicap mark continues to fall, but with justifiable reasons.
10
Horse silk
Under The Red Skyp30
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-8| J: Callum Bewley(3)| T: Kenny Johnson| OR:  75
8/1
PTP winner who (given his ownership) has raced mainly at Hexham of late. Pushed along and struggling five out in a decent race when sixth here last time (fourth won at Bangor on Wednesday), but makes only a modicum of appeal.

Here's To Harryt19
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-2| J: Lucy Alexander| T: N W Alexander| OR:  69
16/1
A mark of 69 is testament to the ability of this gelding, who is impossible to fancy on all known form, failing to complete on both starts last month on return from a three year absence.
12
Horse silk
Coolanureb,h127
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-0| J: Graham Carson(7)| T: Kenny Johnson| OR:  66
33/1
Not completed in six of her last seven starts, with combined odds of 450/1 on her last two starts at this particular track. Official rating of just 66.
13
Horse silk
Top Cat Djp192
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-0| J: Harry Reed(7)| T: C Grant| OR:  63
12/1
PTP winner (May 2013) but 0 from 20 under rules and not seen on a racecourse since June 2016 when pulled up at Perth. Now a full 13lbs lower than when runner up at Musselburgh on New Years Day 2016.

Forecasts

Red Story (9/2), Tambour Major (5/1), Apache Pilot (15/2), Under The Red Sky (8/1), Cross To Boston (8/1), What A Dream (9/1), Harleys Max (12/1), Top Cat Dj (12/1), Here's To Harry (16/1), Hattons Hill (20/1), Oscar Lateen (22/1), Coolanure (33/1), Five Point Plan (50/1)

Verdict

A very unappealing contest where it looks sure to pay to concentrate on those towards the top end of the weights. Both Oscar Lateen and Apache Pilot are no strangers to success at this track and promise to be more competitive from fairer marks, but the former does need to brush up his jumping. Harley's Max has risen sharply in the weights, but looks more reliable than most, whilst What A Dream has proven to be competitive from this mark even allowing for his now advancing years. A real chance is taken in selecting the fully exposed CROSS TO BOSTON, but this is in truth a very moderate contest, and the 11 year old could spring a surprise from a falling mark with the additional lure his riders ten pound claim most appealing. 1. Cross To Boston 2. Oscar Lateen 3. Harleys Max
