Well beaten in three point-to-point contests and little better on debut under rules at Southwell last month. Unlikley to trouble the principals this afternoon.

Satisfactory third on bumper debut at Catterick in February and may have been in need of the outing when well beaten at the same track on his only subsequent start last month. Open to improvement on this hurdles debut but may do better in time.

Trainer has impressive 32% strike rate at this track and this ex-Irish bumper performer is likley to pay his way over hurdles. Any market confidence would be highly significant and he is respected.
Has shown almost no sign of ability to date in two starts and may have better chance of figuring in his races once he is handicapped.

Inauspicious hurdles bow when unseated rider at the second hurdle at Kelso last week, but had hinted at ability in three bumper starts prior to that so not a complete no-hoper. Any market interest would be worth noting.

Got very tired on his hurdles bow at Warwick last month but had previously shaped with promise when fifth in an Ascot bumper on debut. Trainer's 36% winning strike rate at this track is impressive, and he could well do a lot better this afternoon.
Shown very little in point-to-points and under rules to date and looks to face a near impossible task once again today.

Signs of ability when trained by John Ferguson a couple of seasons ago and won a series of point-to-point before joining Micky Hammond in November. Unseated rider halfway in novice chase last time and reverts to hurdles today. Has something to prove but not totally discounted.
Top trainer's only runner at the track today. Excellent fifth in the Champion Bumper at last season's Cheltenham Festival and sent off a hot favourite on hurdles debut at Warwick last month where he appeared to blow up after three out. Sure to strip fitter here and very much the one to beat.

Forecasts

Westend Story (1/2), Lakeside Castle (7/4), Tommy O'dwyer (8/1), Sandhurst Lad (16/1), Our Morris (33/1), Harry Hussar (33/1), Onlyfoolsownhorses (125/1), Don Sebastian (150/1), The Junior Man (150/1)

Verdict

WESTEND STORY is very much the class act on show this afternoon. He jumped satisfactorily on his hurdles bow at Warwick before lack of full fitness appeared to tell, but should have no such excuse on this occasion. He is taken to score at the main expense of Sandhurst Lad, open to plenty of improvement, and the ex-Irish Lakeside Castle. 1. Westend Story 2. Sandhurst Lad 3. Lakeside Castle
