Finished a close up fifth at Chepstow last time, having previously landed an amateur riders contest at Cheltenham on only his second chase start. Races off the same mark here and has to enter calculations.
Won four times on the bounce over hurdles last year and has the potential, on breeding, to be an even better chaser. Would be happy with further rain but looks to be a short enough price for debut over fences.
Former point-to-point gelding who has made a promising start to his chasing career. He did though finish a long way behind in a contest that was a step up at Doncaster last time after getting a bump during the race. Trainer has an impressive strike rate at the track and in this type of race
Won twice over hurdles, including on this track, and finished a good fourth at Ascot last time on his second start over fences. Looks to be progressive and should be a leading contender.
Was beaten before falling at the last here in November on chase debut. Has some decent novice hurdle form and the booking of the champion jockey is an obvious positive.
Improved on two previous chase runs to finish second of four at Newcastle last time, despite not always jumping fluently. Runs off a similar mark and is a leading player for local yard who have plenty of success here.
Forecasts
Hainan (7/2), Crosspark (7/2), Flashjack (4/1), What A Moment (11/2), Mustmeetalady (6/1), Shanroe Santos (11/1), Baywing (12/1)
This is quite a good and open-looking novice chase with a number of runners who look capable of progressing over fences. Bottom weight HAINAN fits into that bracket and has won off a similar mark over hurdles. He was not foot perfect at Newcastle but still ran a good race to finish second and is taken as the value selection, though he can't afford to make mistakes over these stiff fences at his local track. Bigger things will be expected of four-time hurdles winner Baywing over fences whilst Mustmeetalady is another with strong claims and represents a powerful yard.
1. Hainan
2. Baywing
3. Mustmeetalady
