Free Cheltenham Festival tips: Best bets for every race on Wednesday including the Champion Chase

Our team of tipsters nominate their selections for the seven races on the second day of the 2020 Cheltenham Festival.

1.30pm Ballymore Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1)

David Ord - ENVOI ALLEN

Envoi Allen has looked the outstanding novice hurdler on either side of the Irish Sea and rates banker bet material in the Ballymore. There are no question marks over trip, ground or track for him and the exciting thing is we've yet to get anywhere near the bottom of him. Sporting John and The Big Breakaway are unbeaten and respected rivals, but Gordon Elliott's star looks a hurdler out of the top drawer and can claim a second successive Festival win under Davy Russell.

2.10pm RSA Insurance Novices' Chase (Grade 1)

Ed Chamberlin - COPPERHEAD

I've been making Copperhead my bet of the week since his devastating Reynoldstown Chase victory at Ascot. In fact, I think he's a very special novice indeed and still on a steep upward curve. I'm happy to make him my Wednesday banker despite the fact it's a pretty warm edition of the RSA Chase with Irish duo Minella Indo and Allaho well respected.

2.50pm Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)

Oli Bell - CHAMPAGNE WELL (EW)

There are a whole host of fascinating Irish runners but the British novices are worth a second look too and Champagne Well makes plenty of appeal from an each-way perspective. He'll need to bounce back from a slightly lesser effort at Doncaster but he bumped into an on-song Ramses De Teillee there and could be worth excusing. On his previous Cheltenham form he looks potentially well treated off a mark of 141.

3.30pm Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase (Grade 1)

Mike Cattermole - CHACUN POUR SOI

Chacun Pour Soi was very impressive when handing out a four-length-plus beating to Defi Du Seuil at Punchestown last May but it could be that Defi was not quite at his best but there was no denying that Chacun looked very good that day. He apparently needed the run behind A Plus Tard at Leopardstown over Christmas but was back to his best when beating the multiple Grade 1 winner Min on the same course last month and he should be even better for this. Barry Geraghty knows a thing or two about two-mile chasers and has every confidence in Defi Du Seuil but Chacun Pour Soi is narrowly preferred in what should be a cracker.

4.10pm Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase

Ben Linfoot - TIGER ROLL

I was fortunate enough to see Tiger Roll in the flesh last month and he's absolutely raring to go as he bids for a fifth Cheltenham Festival victory. He's got around 20lb in hand on his nearest rival on his best form and although Wednesday's card is now lacking a star in Altior, we can count on the Tiger to raise the Cheltenham roof once more.

4.50pm Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)

Simon Holt - REPETITIO

Admittedly, there aren't too many Festival winners who began the season with a 66/1 defeat at Newton Abbot in July, but this son of Pour Moi has really warmed to hurdling and, significantly, has twice run extremely well at Cheltenham. Third to the now 140-rated Nordano at Chepstow in October, Repetitio was then beaten just under ten lengths behind leading Triumph Hurdle fancy Allmankind and subsequent course winner Botox Has (Nordano fourth) over this course and distance before beating older horses off a light weight in a handicap on the New Course in December when beating Oakley (seventh in the Betfair Hurdle next time) by a neck with subsequent winner Never Adapt (sadly no longer with us) a close-up third. All of this form looks pretty solid to me and, off a mark of 130 (up 5lb for that last win) and given a break since, Nigel Hawke's game and consistent Repetitio can run a big race.

5.30pm Weatherbys Champion Bumper (Grade 1)

Matt Brocklebank - PANIC ATTACK

Four-year-olds have fared pretty well in the bumper in recent years, despite not winners since Cue Card's edition and the fairer sex have also thrived in the heat of this particular battle. That is no doubt down to the massive weight concession and when you combine Panic Attack's weight and sex allowance she gets 15lb off the older geldings. She was very impressive on debut at Market Rasen and the switch to David Pipe from Willie Mullins is hardly a massive negative as Pipe clearly knows what's required in this race as well.
