Worth bearing in mind Perth is already described as soft on Wednesday morning with the potential of another 10mm on top of that before racing, so expect something between soft and heavy as the going description Thursday morning.
Double Oban certainly won’t mind the ground on historical evidence but it’s a little tricky to know where we are with him at present, having only seen him twice this calendar year and although neither run was a disaster, it didn’t suggest he was in front of his mark either. Off since May, the percentage call is a watching brief with him, for all a good run wouldn’t surprise.
MAGNOLIA was consistent in the spring, twice in the frame here, and came back from a break to run a solid race over this C&D again when third to Tintintin, closing in on the leaders as the line approached, and was only beaten a length and a half. That should have teed her up nicely for this, she has winning form on heavy ground and can make that fitness angle tell today. Plenty in her favour.

A weak-looking opener and I’m going to take a chance with Jack Morland’s BATTLE STANDARD, who hasn’t shown a lot yet but goes handicapping off a very low mark, and comes back from a break having been gelded in the meantime.
He’s looked a handicap project from the word go, last of ten (but not tailed off) on debut in a good novice here back in March and ran to a similar standard back here a fortnight later. One more run at Wolverhampton saw him get his handicap mark, and I like the fact he’s already had a couple of runs around here to get him used to the place. The booking of Jack Callan for this apprentice handicap can only be a positive towards his chances too. Should improve tonight.
