Mesut Ozil transfer news and next club odds: Arsenal midfielder 1/5 to move to MLS

Outcast Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is now 1/5 to move to the United States and join a Major League Soccer franchise this month.

Rumours are circulating that the German, 32, is already in talks with MLS side DC United, with whom Wayne Rooney had a successful 18-month spell before returning to England to join Derby a year ago.

Ozil has not played for Arsenal since football was first suspended in March, with the Gunners leaving him out of their 25-man Premier League squad for the 2020/21 campaign.

That was despite him being one of the club's highest earners, taking home a reported £350,000 per week.

Although stop-start since Arsene Wenger's departure in 2018, during seven years at the Emirates, Ozil has still racked up 33 goals and 54 assists in 184 Premier League apperances.

Prior to Arsenal's recent resurgence in form, there had been a surge in support for the 2014 World Cup winner to return the team.

Even as recently as this week, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was cagey when asked about Ozil's future, simply saying: "We will see what happens in the transfer window and assess it at the end of that."

But it now looks as though the mercurial midfielder's time in north London is close to coming to an end, after a bitter, unhappy nine months.
