Alan King - Dunkerron: "I would like to think that if Dunkerron comes back to his best, he will go very close. He was very disappointing in the Solario Stakes and was quite sick with a bad scope the following week. He gave no indication that anything was ailing him before that run, but a lot of my two-year-olds were not quite right for a brief period. He would definitely be the best two-year-old that I have trained, which is quite special since he was bred at Barbury Castle Stud by my good mate, Nigel Bunter, who still has the mare."

Roger Varian - Prince Eiji: "He showed a professional attitude to win first time out and he will naturally improve for the run. This is a significant rise in grade, but he looks to have a good future and this is a nice step up the ladder for him."

Man On The Spot Verdict:

Cardini won a handicap at the Curragh last month but Aidan O’Brien’s colt came up short in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last time, though finished in front of Bye Bye Hong Kong. Dunkerron was placed in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood before disappointing at Sandown while Floating Artist was runner-up in Listed company at Haydock but this is tougher. Arctic Sound and You Never Can Tell are others with something to find and it could pay to stick with PRINCE EIJI. The latter made a winning start at Ascot and this looks a logical step up for the 2.6m gns yearling with entries in Group 1 races next month, including the Dewhurst Stakes here.
