Our in-form daily duo Rory Delargy and David Massey provide their thoughts on today's racing action.
Racing betting tips: Sunday October 25
1pt win Dearg Mor in the 13:42 Galway at 10/3 (bet365) – min 3/1
1pt win Livin On Luco in the 14:41 Market Rasen at 11/4 (General) – min 5/2
13:42 Galway – Handicap Chase 2m2f54y
I’m sweet on the chances of DEARG MOR (Big Red, for those without an Irish/English Dictionary) after he posted an encouraging effort on chase debut over C&D earlier in the month.
Aidan Howard’s five-year-old jumped well on his first attempt over fences and fared much the best of those held up in a race where front-runner My Cullen controlled a steady gallop. Dearg Mor came with a strong run from the last and might well have won had he not found the gap between the front pair closing when challenging, but it was a good effort to be beaten less than a length.
My Cullen was edged out near the finish but did his bit for the form when beaten only narrowly in a handicap chase at Punchestown the following week, so the early signs are that the form is fair even if the race was steadily run.
Dearg Mor comes out as the one to mark up from the contest and looks on a decent mark of 90, which is in line with the pick of his hurdles form. The son of Ribchester gave the impression on debut that he might make into a much better chaser - despite his pedigree - and he is taken to prove the point at the second time of asking.
14:41 Market Rasen – Handicap Chase 3m3f123y
LIVIN ON LUCO was outclassed in the bet365 Gold Cup when last seen, but his record fresh is encouraging (form figures after 9 weeks or more off the track read 21131) and is a sound jumper who is suited by making the running, which should be a given in this small field.
Sean Bowen is an unusual booking for the Hobbs/Johnson yard but an encouraging one and Livin On Luco is taken to make all the running from a mark just 1lb higher than when edged out by the reopposing Rivers Corner at Exeter in March.
That pair are closely matched but the selection is expected to be at his best for this return, whereas Rivers Corner tends to need a run or two to hit form.
