1425 Goodwood Friday Forest Ranger
We start with Forest Ranger on Friday in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes. He’s a horse that’s getting better all the time and a mile around here on slower ground should be fine for him. We’ll see what happens for while he needs to step up again in this – he might just be capable of doing so.
Hand on heart we’ve been disappointed with Birchwood. We don’t know what trip he wants or anything right now.
We’re stepping him up in the Betfred Mile to see what happens – and it will be interesting to see. He’s a horse that looks fantastic right now and is in great form at home.
We also run Withernsea here. He’s coming back quickly after finishing third in the International at Ascot at the weekend. However he seems to have come out of that very well and will love the ground.
We’re double handed in the Betfred Mobile Nursery.
You can totally draw a line through Quayside’s last run at Haydock as he nearly fell over coming out of the stalls and that was that. Prior to that he’d been progressing nicely and I think he can get on the right track again.
It’s difficult to know where you want to be on the straight course at Goodwood but a high draw is usually a good spot. Royal Diplomat has drawn stall 12 and won’t mind the soft ground. He was just a fraction disappointing at Ripon last time but could run alright here.
