The Punting Pointers team of Rory Delargy and David Massey highlight their selections for today's racing.
Racing betting tips: Saturday July 11
0.5pts e.w Kats Bob in the 17:30 York at 25/1 (Bet365 - 1/5 1,2,3,4,5 - no lower)
1pt e.w Enola Grey in the 17:20 Ascot at 11/1 (Bet365 & Hills - 1/5 1,2,3,4,5, min 10/1)
Hard to look past top weight Super Tuscan here. He wasn’t going anywhere quickly on his first two starts but once he’d been gelded and stepped up in trip last time he looked a totally different proposition, winning an eased-down 3¾ lengths at Chepstow a fortnight ago. An opening mark of 84 would give him every chance on its own, but the fact there looked to be a lot left in the tank means there’s likely improvement to come. The speed figure backed up the visuals and he’s going to be tough to beat with a repeat.
17:30 York - John Smith’s Sprint Handicap 6f
Kats Bob will be the pace up the middle, and he has winning C&D form, and that from a 6lb higher mark than today. His overall win rate means he’s a bit all or nothing, but he looked on the way back to form when fourth at Doncaster at the start of June. Problem is, he’s run poorly twice, but the good news is there are easy excuses - the draw - on both occasions.
Drawn 22 here on his next start, the last four home were drawn 18, 22, 21 and 19, so high was useless, and at Doncaster last time was one of two (and the other was Sixtygeesbaby, reopposes today) that came up the stands rail away from the rest - and they finished last and one from last respectively. So you have your excuses. He’ll get sweaty beforehand, always does, but could be the bet.
There’s plenty of pace on among those drawn middle to high here, and it should set up for something ridden with a bit of restraint that can travel well.
Enola Grey’s overall strike rate is a bit offputting, but she’s the one that fits the bill, and she ought to come on for a run at Carlisle at the end of June, her first since February. She again travelled well that day, going off 65 on Betfair but trading considerably shorter in the run, but her effort just flattened out late as she got a bit tired. With that under her belt, she should last out a bit longer here and if they do go a step too quick, she ought to be the beneficiary of it. She should at least, with a dollop of in-running luck, give us a nice each-way return.
