Shagraan won this last year from stall 4, beating Beautiful Diamond, who emerged from the highest stall. He’s drawn 2 here and is clearly fancied to double up, but there is some value in supporting HEAVENLY HEATHER each way as she returns to the venue of her career-best effort. Tracy Waggott’s mare finished well to be beaten less than a length and a half when 6th of 26 in the King Charles III Stakes here in June and she’s not had ideal conditions since. Suited by a track with a stiff finish, all three of her wins – including a 200/1 shock – have come at Newcastle, but this track places similar demands on a sprinter and she is fancied to make the frame at rewarding odds having finished well ahead of both Shagraan and First Instinct at Royal Ascot.
16:35 Redcar - Marske Fabrications & Engineering Straight-Mile Series Final
It’s easy enough to see the claims of Rajapour after two C&D wins this season and a near miss at Hamilton last time out, and I’ll certainly be using him as a forecast mixer, but the suggestion is DOUBLE PARKED, who looked like he might be on the way back to form after a better effort over York’s extended ten furlongs last time out. He does stay that far and has winning form at the trip, but his record over a mile at Redcar isn’t to be sniffed at, reading 113733, and with the 7 coming on his seasonal debut this year, that’s a run easy enough to forgive. Third in this last year from the same mark, he looks like he’s been teed up with this in mind again, and hopefully David Allan, so often seen to good effect on the straight course here, can get him home in front.

Captain Cairney and Saxophonic are the pair that come into this in good form, both winners on the all-weather last time out and whilst neither is fully proven at this trip - their wins both came at 14f - they ought to stay. However, they have bene priced up accordingly and of more interest is TINKETY TONK, very likely to improve a chink now tackling a trip more in line with his breeding, which suggests stamina is going to be his long suit.
He’s looked a handicap project from the word go, showing nothing but inexperience on his debut at Leicester but more at Goodwood on his second start over 14f, plugging on to finish midfield behind Treble Tee and already looking a stayer. So it was a surprise - of sorts - to see him dropped back to 10f for his third start and he was outpaced quickly after making the running.
Trainer Hughie Morrison knows the family well, as he trained the dam, Sweet Selection, who won both the Cesarewitch and Sagaro in her time. As long as he handles the surface, he should give his shorter-priced rivals something to think about.

Kats Bob is getting on a bit now but he seems to hold his form pretty well, in the main, and has a good record at Southwell, with two wins and two places from six starts at the track, so should be considered here. He ran fourth over C&D last week when not adopting his usual front-running tactics, Barry McHugh sitting handy instead, but he stuck on well enough to the task and might just come on for the run, his first for a month. Stall 13 gives him the chance to get out and grab the stands rail in the straight, so often the place to be at Southwell, and make his way home.
