John Quinn is one of Yorkshire's leading dual-purpose trainers and the Malton man gave us the lowdown on his Flat team for 2019.
Flag-bearer: El Astronaute made a good start to the season and hopefully he can have another good year. It'd be great to think we could maybe end up with him in something like the Abbaye at the end of the year.
On the upgrade: Safe Voyage put in a very smart performance at Haydock and he's verging on Group class now with the promise of more to come when he just gets a little dig in the ground.
Exciting two-year-old: We've an unnamed Frankel filly who will be one to keep an eye on when she gets going a little later in the campaign.
It’s that time of the year when the Flat season takes centre stage. With thousands of horses, hundreds of jockeys and plenty of trainers performing across the UK & Ireland in multiple meetings every single day, it can be tough to keep track of all that catches your eye. But not any longer. Our My Stable service is the simple and perfect way to stay on top (and ahead) of the game.
Safe Voyage
He's a very good horse. He ran three times last year, winning at Haydock, winning at Galway and then he'd been working well before Ascot but he didn't really have his ground most of the year and had been bubbling away like a kettle all year.
He wasn't quite at his best on Champions Day but it was great to see him win the Haydock race again last weekend. He loves his racing and really wants it in a finish.
We could look towards something like the Diomed Stakes at Epsom over a mile. It's hard to win but we're thinking about that and maybe the Hunt Cup but what ground are you going to get at Royal Ascot? We'll have to see.
He just needs that little bit of cut in the ground. He's up to 109 now and that's into Listed and Group Three territory.
El Astronaute
He's in very good shape and will go to Newmarket on Saturday. He's in the Duke of York too. He's won at Epsom before but he went across the track the other year so it may not be his track.
He's a very, very fast horse.
He ran very well at Musselburgh recently and just got beat but he had a penalty for winning a Listed race in France last October.
Now we'll dip our toe into a Group race and see. I hope he can keep on progressing and who knows where he could end up. He has won over five and a half furlongs and wasn't stopping so we could try him again over six furlongs as well but he's got a high cruising speed.
Signora Cabello
She's never been a wonderful work horse, even as a two-year-old, but she's been pleasing us. She's running at Ascot this week and will face Calyx which is a bit daunting but you've got to start somewhere and we're hoping she starts out on a positive note.
She'd had enough by the time of the Cheveley Park Stakes last season but her earlier form was excellent.
Lord Riddiford
He's a fairly decent sprinter and will likely go to Chester and then York. We put him in the Dash at Epsom and he's well up to winning a good one. He's rated 92 after a good year last year but is a fair horse and could carry on improving.
Mistiroc
He ran well at the weekend when second to Fujaira Prince at Doncaster. That was more like himself and he had a bit of an injury.
He'll go to York in three weeks' time and can hopefully build on the comeback run.
Look My Way
Hopefully he'll be back in training soon but unfortunately he picked up an injury and we'd be thinking about an autumn campaign for him.
Cobra Eye
He's a colt by Kodiac and is owned by Phoenix Thoroughbred. We're going to work him on the grass in the next few days and he'll probably run in around three weeks' time. He could be useful.
Rebel Redemption
He's another two-year-old who we're hoping might just pop his head up and show that he's half decent. He's by Lethal Force out of a Pivotal mare and has some speed about him.
