VERDICT
Ron O and Westridge best.
3 Erzindjan - might need the run a touch after a short break, others appeal more.
14 Zain Blue - sturdy sort, well muscled.
9 Seagolazo - touch keen and second handler added, no fitness questions.
11 Classic Encounter - fit after a short break, looks well.
10 Castle Stuart - compact sort, okay but not the fittest in here.
8 Dain Ma Nut In - no fitness concerns after short break, fine.
4 Greek Order - another horse who tends to appeal in the paddock, couldn’t put you off again.
1 Westridge - narrow framed sort and tends to present lean, looks the same today.
12 Dark Moon Rising - no fitness queries, probably seen him appeal more this season.
5 Tony Montana - tends to appeal, but doesn’t look as well as Goodwood last time when one of paddock picks.
15 Per Contra - backs up quickly, no concerns.
6 Marhaba Ghaiyyath - not jumping out particularly, fit enough but a little dull in the coat.
7 Ron O - notably fit, good level of rib definition.
2 Sir Busker - usually looks heavy in the parade ring, standard for him, no major change from any sightings this season.
13 Thunder Wonder - always tends to present lean and does so again, fine.

Tim Easterby: "She's really fast but she's a bit quirky so going down to the start there, she went down early, and on the way down they started a helicopter up, just as she was going past it, that's why he had to get off her because it scared her, she's never seen a helicopter on our gallops.
"She's great, she's good doing everything but I don't like things like that happening. Dave said when he really went for her she quickened up but he said she's still very green and he said it's better just letting her roll than trying to hold her. When she came back [from Royal Ascot] she had a bit of ringworm and things like that, scoped dirty, so she wasn't quite right but she's still run a super race.
"She's a big filly, she'll improve with age and time so that was great today. Alice has spotted her at the sales and thought I've got to get this one because the other brothers and sisters weren't as nice as her. Winter Power was obviously very good but quirky."

VERDICT
Silent Applause is the whole package here, nice attitude and physicality. Revival Power also catches the eye as an exciting prospect but may be one for the future given her inexperience.
7 Our Cody - fine, narrow filly, tends to present fit and does so again.
8 Revival Power - looks in great order, well muscled, left till late to paddock, still green, lovely type for the future.
3 Kinnalargy - compact, closely put together colt. Not a lot of size but very fit and typical stamp of a sprinter.
1 Dickensian - smart; compact colt, tends to present similar in the paddock, no negatives.
5 Rydale Frosty - looks in good order, high level of fitness, on his toes and liable to a couple of moments, has been typical presentation for him on last few outings.
6 Silent Applause - easy going colt, has a bit of size and scope about him, uses his body well, likeable.
4 Military Code - red hood, quite tense, already warm in the pre-parade. No questions over fitness but will need to be well managed.
9 Zelaina - never jumps out in a paddock, small and boxy filly, similar presentation to last time.

Michael Dods: "He's always been a good horse, even last year we knew he was good. He won his two novices and maidens and then we went for the Trophy [at Redcar], thinking he could win it to be honest. This season, nothing wrong with him, just the ground's been too firm and the only place we were really happy to run him was when he went to Hamilton, ran a good race but he's so raw he needs races to teach him and Danny said he got there too soon today.
"He gave him a great ride but I've got to be a bit disappointed he beat Commanche Falls who is the yard favourite. It's great to finish first and second anyway. He's a very strong traveller and we've got to have that [the Ayr Gold Cup] on his radar, that's probably going to be his next run I would say. That race could suit him and that's where I'd expect him to go now. I could easily see him stepping up into Listed and Group races next year, he won't be doing it this year and we'll enjoy what's happening now."

William Buick: "Willie said we're drawn where we're drawn you're not going to get two or three off the rail and he gave me a beautiful ride. I've never won the Ebor but I've never had a better ride.
"I got a good trip and when I asked him to accelerate he was right there for me. He's a very talented horse.
"I think he ticks every box [for the Melbourne Cup]."

Paddock Updates

10 Seagulls Eleven - always presents toey and hard fit. Had been a little more professional at Goodwood when winning and showing signs of a bit more maturity again
7 Rosallion - presenting like he did at Goodwood, hasn’t really caught the eye this season for all he’s been fit and functional, no major change
3 Lake Forest - another one who hasn’t caught the eye this season, looks marginally better. Compact, muscular type.
9 Maranoa Charlie - tall colt, lovely and relaxed compared to some of these, playing with his tongue and generally taking it all in, likeable with a good level of fitness
1 Annaf - unimpressive compared to some of these, easy demeanour, lacks the quality of some
5 Qirat - similar to Goodwood, lovely fluid mover, looks in great order
11 Exactly - not a great mover, compact and small filly, not jumping out
2 Audience - heavily on his toes, which is normal presentation for him, but considerably better than Goodwood when he was nearly unmanageable in first time cheekpieces

Anna Lisa Balding told Racing TV: "He's just taken it all in his stride and a big credit to the lads who look after him and ride him at home because he's a little bit quirky and to get him to come and win on a big day like this is such a great result for the team.
"Dropping back to seven you're not quite sure how versatile they are but I think he did it well today. Although Oisin did feel in the future a mile might be the right spot for him."
When asked what those future plans might entail, Balding replied: "I only just literally put the saddle on so straight back to the trainer on that one!"

Paddock Updates
8 Golden Handshake - full bodied gelding who never presents strikingly fit. Looks fine for him, two handlers as getting a touch tight.

5 Cape Breton - has caught the eye on other occasions this season, not appealing against some of these whilst there aren’t any fitness questions

Winning jockey Colin Keane told Racing TV:"I wasn't sure [if I'd won] to be honest with you, it was heads up, heads down and luckily we were on the right side of it.
"He quickened up well I thought but got a little bit lonely but then Oisin came to him and Oisin maybe got up a neck, half-a-length but he didn't get any further and my horse wasn't stopping and I had a very willing partner thankfully. He's a very uncomplicated horse, good mind and wants to win."

Paddock Updates

Winning rider Sean Levey told Racing TV: "I wanted to make the running. I've ridden him in the past, albeit I thought he wanted to go a bit further.
"Even over a mile trip, when sat in and giving him a nice ride, he finds ways of not getting out so I was adamant today I wanted to go forward on him. He never gave me the impression he was going to jump slow but when the gates opened he stood there for a second but luckily enough he was willing when he came out and I got a handy enough position I suppose.
"The biggest problem I'd have had is if we went up the rail but the track is obviously riding that bit better down the middle, I had a chance to go when I liked and at the two it looked as though he was going to be very dominant but he got there, there's no badness in him, he's probably an intelligent horse and keeps a little bit up his sleeve.
"I did mention that if he's a horse we're going to keep for next year then gelding might help him."
