How hard is it to become a horse racing jockey? Dom Newton-Collinge finds out

Ever slated a jockey? Ever thought ‘how hard can it be to ride a horse around a track? The horse does all the work!’

To be a jockey you need to be committed, highly motivated, fit as a fiddle and light. Flat jockeys are usually around 8 stone, with jump jockeys weighing around 9st 7lbs. Jockeys are professional athletes.

So, we sent our man Dom, all 13st of him, to the British Racing School with former jockey and Union J member JJ Hamblett for a harsh lesson on the demands of race-riding.

Turns out it's extremely intense and, if you're as unfit as Dom, hilarious. With a surname like Newton-Collinge, you’d think horse racing would be in his blood…but no.
