Our star daily duo Rory Delargy and David Massey are back with a look ahead to today's action.
Racing betting tips: Tuesday December 16
0.5pts e.w Cross Of Redmoor in the 14:15 Catterick at 100/1 (Paddy Power - 1/5 1,2,3, min 66/1)
1pt win Flash Gorcombe in the 14:30 Wincanton at 9/2 (General, take no lower)
There are several of some interest in this handicap chase, but the more I look at the race, the more I come round to Flash Gorcombe, who needed one run before finding the winning thread last winter, and shaped as if in need of the run here last month, finishing 16 lengths fourth of 8 to Tapley in a C&D handicap but shaping as if in need of the run. He improved for his comeback last season, winning off a mark of 103 at Exeter, where he travelled and jumped with zest. He’s quickly dropped below that mark again and trainer Robert Walford has returned to form with two winners from six runners in the last week or so, both coming in handicap chases.
Flash Gorcombe can be a hard rival to pass when in the groove as he showed when beating Joe Cotton by 16 lengths at Exeter in January, and he’s improved a little further since stretched out to 2½m. He can lose his form in the spring, but has a fine chase record in December and January of 2131 when kept away from heavy ground.

Okay, let's get the negatives out of the way regarding Cross Of Redmoor first; trainer Lizzie Quinlan is struggling for a winner, and Cross Of Redmoor has looked limited in five starts over hurdles to date. It might be she wants better ground too. Right, now the positives. She's from a good family that all wanted time and a trip, so she could do better yet, and her fourth at Sedgefield two starts back, where she kept on well, suggested she's not totally devoid of ability. This step back up in trip today should help, and it's worth pointing out she'd have finished somewhere near Vanilla Dancer in that Sedgefield event, had Vanilla Dancer not fallen two out. One is 9/1 this morning and the other is 100s. That's a price we have to take a chance with.
