2:30 Punchestown

NAPPER TANDY caught my eye at Ballinrobe last time, travelling like the winner before tiring on the long run from the last hurdle to the line.

That was his first run for the guts of a year and this unexposed gelding looks ahead of his mark on that evidence.

PARTY PLAYBOY was off for over three years after finishing an excellent second in the 2019 Cesarewitch, but he’s gradually got back to form in three runs for a new yard this season, and he now has cheekpieces reapplied for the first time since the Goodwood Stakes in 2019.

He is a notably strong traveller who can flatter to deceive in a finish (traded 3.2 from 150 in the Cesarewitch and went odds on in his previous four races that season without winning, including at Goodwood).

The best way to play him is as a back-to-lay trade, but with six places on offer, he makes plenty of each-way appeal as well.

4:50 Punchestown

The Yellow Clay was unlucky not to finish much closer at the Dublin Racing Festival and would certainly have beaten Redemption Day on that occasion but for meeting serious interference in the straight.

He then raced too close to an overly strong pace in the Champion Bumper and shaped better than the result in finishing sixth to Jasmin de Vaux.

He clearly has work on to beat the comfortable winner here, but he is certainly worth another chance to show how good he is under a more sensible ride.

5:25 Punchestown

This may well boil down to the anticipated clash between last year’s first and second, with Fastorslow having another crack at Galopin des Champs after unseating in the Gold Cup, but the race has a good shape for each-way betting and Gold Cup third CORACH RAMBLER should be at least as well suited by this track and barely had a race when coming to grief early in the Grand National.

He was rested for some time before Cheltenham, so will be fresher than most and could spring a shock.

5:35 Pontefract

PREMIERSHIP has yet to get going this season, beating only a handful of horses home in three starts, but it has to be of some interest that Michael Wigham brings him back up North for a crack at a race that the gelding won a division of last year when he was with Tracy Waggott.

He hasn’t really had his conditions this calendar year, which has seen him drop back to a mark a pound lower than his last winning one, but with the ground likely to ride good to soft after a drying day Tuesday, that’s much more his bag, with a full record of 313 on it according to Timeform, including that Pontefract win.

Jason Hart, 2-7 for the yard in the past five seasons, looks a good booking, and a return to form today would be no surprise.
