Racing betting tips: Thursday March 26
1pt win Clipsham Noble in 15:07 Southwell at 15/2 (General) - min 13/2
1pt win Lightonthewing in 15:50 Chepstow at 7/2 (General) - min 10/3
0.5pts e.w. The Italian Fox in 16:50 Chepstow at 11/1 (General 1/5 1,2,3,4) - min 9/1)
15:07 Southwell
The Charlie Clover stable is one to follow at present and CLIPSHAM NOBLE is fancied to win on debut for the yard in this low-grade affair.
Clover has his team in tremendous form at present, with his runners in the last two months showing form figures of 1101218511. Clipsham Noble makes his debut for the yard after leaving Alice Haynes and horses switching to the Clover stable have also been going well of late, with those starting at 25/1 or shorter finishing 612132 since September.
Clipsham Noble is just a modest performer and one run over C&D yielded little for his previous yard, but his sire, Mehmas, has a positive profile at Southwell and it’s worth backing him to show some improvement for the positive stable switch.
Ciaran O’Shea is a claiming jockey who has impressed me on the West-Country circuit this season and he can bag another winner when riding LIGHTONTHEWING in this marathon chase.
He’s already scored twice on Susan Gardner’s stayer this season and the gelding jumped notably well to make all the running at Exeter last time out.
A reliable and game sort, the son of Winged Love should relish the step up in trip having been placed over 3½m at Stratford in the past and he looks the best recommendation in an open contest, with his prominent style of racing suiting this venue.
16:50 Chepstow
THE ITALIAN FOX caught the eye when a staying-on fifth at Taunton on his handicap debut, looking like even further than a sharp three miles was needed, and he should get a stiffer test here for all a longer trip would have been preferable.
It’s worth noting Joe Tizzard won that Taunton race with more-fancied stablemate Mask Of Zorro who followed up at Doncaster, while third home Bitsandbuckles won at Southwell next time to give the form a solid look.
The Italian Fox is open to further improvement as he gains experience and it will be interesting to see if he attracts any support here as he was very weak in the market prior to that improved effort at Taunton.
