Racing betting tips: Monday August 17
1pt e.w Tenbob Tommy in the 18:55 Windsor at 12/1 (General 1/5 1,2,3 - min 9/1)
Tenbob Tommy has improved since Sheena West dropped him to 6f at the start of the year and the ploy paid immediate dividends when he won a novice at Lingfield in January, giving 16lb and a neck beating to Alasrae, who has won three times since, including in the valuable All-Weather Vase 3-y-o Handicap on Good Friday from a mark of 78. The strapping son of Ten Sovereigns then went on to land a Leicester handicap where he beat subsequent winners Rogue Allegiance and Em Four, while Shazani – twice a winner this month for Roy Bowring – was back in fifth.
Tenbob Tommy had his winning run ended when third in the Brighton Bullet last time, but shaped better than the bare result in finishing third, and gave the impression the run would bring him on. He is in a competitive race here but while he may look expose, it’s worth noting that his first two runs came in bumpers and his early flat starts at a mile. He’s improved with each start at six furlongs and it would be unwise to assume he won’t progress again given his profile. A likeable sort with natural gate speed, he looks a touch of value here.
