Racing betting tips: Tuesday October 13

I’d be more than happy to give Dashing Dick another try, for much the same reasons as we did at Leicester last week, plus the booking of Kieran Shoemark looks pretty significant too.
Essentially he’s been running himself into form at the same time as he’s been getting his mark down, and he’s now 13lb lower than at the start of the season. Beaten a length here over 7f last week after being on the front throughout, he wasn’t given a lot of peace and that probably cost him the win. This week’s slightly slower ground is ideal and Kieran Shoemark has ridden Dashing Dick to victory twice, including his latest win which came at the back end of last year at Newmarket. Worth sticking with.
In the hope it stays on the slow side at Leicester (it doesn’t dry back much at this time of the year) it’s worth having a look at Sergeant Wilko, yet to win over 7f but went very close to doing so at Thirsk back in the spring, only going down by a neck to Brighton Boy.
He met Brighton Boy again at Pontefract last week and ran another solid race over 6f, sticking on after being headed and looking worth another crack at this trip. He’s handicapped to win one soon and might not face too much pressure on the front here, so ought to get his own way.

William Stone did us a good turn with a double a couple of weeks back and perhaps he can repeat that feat, as Little Tiger has solid claims in the finale under Laura Coughlan. A non-stayer when tried over 1½m on her first run here, she has since produced form figures over C&D of 13332 on ground ranging from good to firm to good to soft. The pair finished ahead of Ricardo Phillips here last month and are weighted to confirm that form on just 1lb worse terms, so it’s hard to understand why they are a bigger price, bearing in mind that both horses have shown their best form here.
Little Tiger is perhaps vulnerable to an improver but she is very consistent given her conditions, and has produced some of her best efforts in the autumn, winning over this trip at Brighton in October 2024, for example, so is expected to be on her mettle again.
