Happy RED DEREK Day Everybody!
It’s the autumn, it’s a stiff track, the ground is soft, heavy in places and it’s 10 furlongs, so if we’re ever jumping aboard the Red Derek Express one more time it’ll be today. Three runs at Leicester have seen him hit the frame each time, and a recent run at Haydock, his first since June, should have blown a few cobwebs away.
We realise he’s a 10-year-old now, so we can’t go mad on him, but the booking of Jack Garrity has swayed us into a small each-way bet on the old boy. If he can’t operate off a mark of 50 under favoured conditions, this’ll probably be the last time he gets a mention in the column. Done us proud over the years as an each-way moneyspinner, he has.

Another that tends to come good in the autumn is TELE RED, who I thought might just come on for his run at York last time, and for all we’d have liked him more at ten furlongs, a stiff mile on testing ground should be fine, much as it was when he was only beaten a neck at Pontefract under similar conditions last October.
You do have to forgive a couple of below-par efforts on his last two starts but as we say, heavy ground is very much his thing, recording form figures of 212 last October when the rains came. His Beverley fourth in August (again, on heavy) showed him in a better light and a reproduction of that from a 5lb lower mark gives him a chance today.

One who will relish conditions and has shown her best form to date in the autumn is WOOLISLE.
Heather Main has only had three winners this year, but two of those have come in recent weeks, and it's not hard to forgive Woolisle for never getting involved at Haydock last time, with the run looking needed after being off since June, suggesting a setback. Two runs on soft/heavy last October at Nottingham saw her finish second and first, while she was beaten a length or less on her first two runs this term, with Main seemingly reluctant to risk her on fast turf.
She travelled well on her runs at 6f, but her sole win came over this trip, and confidence that she's ready to win is bolstered by the fact that she is entered again at Bath on Thursday.
A few firms are going three places each-way on the contest, and that’s the way we’ll play Woolisle today.
16:24 Leicester - Aja Novice Flat Amateur Jockeys Handicap 1m4f
Kotari has the back-class and historical form to win this, we’d not argue that, but 13/8 for one that hasn’t won for a couple of seasons looks short enough.
If he wins he wins, but there’s an each-way alternative in the shape of GLITTER CODE, a winner under an enterprising ride from today’s pilot, Nell Biker two starts back at Ripon where Nell took her wide in search of better ground, a tactic that paid off with a narrow win.
She shaped perfectly well on her first start for William Knight at Southwell last month too (again, ridden by Nell), finishing a close fourth , well clear of the rest, and with third home Spec Of Light winning twice since, it actually looks a fair piece of form for the grade.
Placed on his only start at Leicester, soft ground holds no fears and we fancy he’ll run his race again.
