Fed Cup review: USA level with Czech Republic 1-1


The opening day of the Fed Cup clash between USA and the Czech Republic ended all square at 1-1.

Coco Vanderweghe got the hosts off to a good start in Tampa with a 6-1 6-4 victory over teenager Marketa Vondrousova. 

The victory continued the former's fine form in Fed Cup clashes which now stands at seven straight - four singles and three doubles - stretching back to 2015.

The Czech Republic were back on terms though when Katerina Siniakova got the better of Shelby Rodgers in the second rubber 6-3 6-3. 

It is honours even as well in Minsk with Belarus and Switzerland locked at 1-1. 

Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated Viktorija Golubic in three sets to take the opening rubber for the home side but Timea Backsinszky restored parity with a 6-4 7-5 success over Aryna Sabalenka.
