Sam Querrey: In fine form in New York
Sam Querrey: In fine form in New York

US Open tennis, Tuesday's match preview: Free betting tips and odds

It was two winners from two bets for Andy Schooler at the US Open on Monday. Today he's got 8/11 and 2/1 picks.

It was good to put a disappointing weekend firmly behind us with two winners from yesterday's two bets - Madison Keys delivering the top pick at evens and Andrey Rublev fully justifying the decision to back him at 13/8 as he beat David Goffin in straight sets.

The quarter-finals begin on Tuesday and a couple of bets make appeal...

Best bet

Sam Querrey to beat Kevin Anderson at 8/11

Querrey is playing some of the best tennis of his career right now and can see off Anderson in what promises to be an ace-laden serve fest. Both men deliver the ball into court big but what was been significant in Querrey matches this summer and, most notably here in New York, is that his game off the ground has certainly improved. His demolition of Mischa Zverev, for the loss of just five games, was arguably the performance of Querrey’s career, the American admitting it was right up there afterwards and describing his serving display at “the best I’ve served all summer”. Time and time again he passed the German and Anderson will certainly be wary of coming forward – a tactic he used fairly successfully in the duo’s Wimbledon battle. Querrey leads the pair’s head to head 8-6 and although Anderson did win their last clash quite comfortably in Montreal a few weeks ago, Querrey’s form is enough to convince me he can turn the tables here.

In the sub-markets, some of you may be interested in the 11/8 on offer about a first-set tie-break. Eight of their previous 14 matches would have won this bet, although what puts me off is the slower conditions we’ve seen on Ashe this year compared to others.

Outside chance

Diego Schwartzman to beat Pablo Carreno Busta at 2/1

I understand why Schwartzman is the price he is here – he needed treatment on a leg injury during his last-16 win – but it’s still too big for me not to get involved, at least in a small way. The Argentine has been in fantastic form with wins over seeds Marin Cilic and Lucas Pouille so far. His forehand is firing and his much-vaunted return game is in good working order, regularly creating break opportunities. He should create plenty more against PCB, who has had the good fortune of having had to play four qualifiers so far – the first time that has happened in Grand Slam history. Yes, his triumph over the in-form Denis Shapovalov in the last round was a good one he’s yet to drop a set so far, but this test should be even greater as long as Schwartzman isn’t hindered – and it is worth remembering he wasn’t bothered very much by his leg in the fourth set on Sunday. His coach, Juan Ignacio Chela, certainly issued an upbeat update on the problem yesterday, saying a scan had discovered the injury was “not serious” and that “we think it’s going to go well”. Maybe you’ll want to wait a few games and get involved in-play but I haven’t got that option and am happy to take a chance on this occasion given the size of the price which would be considerably smaller were the injury doubt not clouding things.
