US Open tennis, Sunday's match preview: Free betting tips and odds

Andy Schooler has an odds-against shot as his best bet for today's action at the US Open.

It was a wipe-out for yesterday's selections, the disappointment summed up by a final-set tie-break loss for best bet Monica Niculescu.

Back on the horse we get though with the last 16 getting under way on Sunday.

Best bet

No tie-breaks in Lucas Pouille v Diego Schwartzman at 5/4

Down to just eight singles matches today, I’ll keep things simple with one selection. With Schwartzman among the best returners in the business and breaking serve more than 30 per cent of the time on a hardcourt, don’t expect serve to dominate. Between them the pair have played 22 sets so far at the tournament and none has gone the distance. That’s part of a longer trend from both men on this surface. Pouille has played 17 hardcourt matches this year with only four featuring a breaker. Schwartzman’s stats are even stronger – 27 played, only four with a tie-break. I was tempted by over 38.5 games in this one – there is little between the pair – but given long sets look unlikely, even a four-set contest may come in under the mark. I’ll instead opt for no-breakers at 5/4 which the stats fully support.
