Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova wins in Monterrey again

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova claimed her fourth Monterrey Open crown as she kept world number one Angelique Kerber waiting for her first title of 2017.

Pavlyuchenkova prevailed 6-4 2-6 6-1 in Sunday's final, a re-match of her last title here when she beat Kerber 4-6 6-2 6-4 in the 2013 final.

Kerber was playing in her first final of the year after missing significant time with a shoulder injury, but was outgunned by Pavlyuchenkova who hit eight aces to Kerber's three.

Elsewhere, Russian teenager Daria Kasatkina won her maiden WTA title by beating Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko 6-3 6-1 in the Volvo Car Open final in Charleston.

World number 42 Kasatkina, 19, was far too consistent on the South Carolina clay and sealed victory over fellow teenager Ostapenko, playing in her third WTA final, in 66 minutes.

The pair, big rivals on the junior circuit, exchanged breaks of serve early in the first set but from 3-3 Kasatkina took control of the match and went on to lose only one more game, while breaking Ostapenko twice more in the second set.

Kasatkina struck just six winners to Ostapenko's 25 but made only seven unforced errors to the Latvian's 38, and converted five of her seven break points.
